Summary: This is a volunteer/internship position without compensation or expectation of compensation, and services will be freely performed at the direction of the organization. The duration of the experience is ongoing at the discretion of the volunteer/intern or organization.This is a general outline of the principal functions of the position and shall not be construed as an all-inclusive description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in this position.The Accounting Volunteer/Intern assists with projects and ongoing operations of the Accounting Department. They carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas:data entry, financial and statistical analysis, reconciling accounts, budgeting, and general accounting duties.

Principal Functions:

  • Assist with projects and ongoing operations in a thorough manner in order to guarantee accurate information and completion of tasks.
  • Analyze financial and statistical data to assist management in decision making.
  • Assist with the General Ledger to aid the Accounting team.
  • Help reconcile and process Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable to ensure accurate and timely collections and payments.
  • Assist with preparation and annual audits to ensure compliance with governmental agencies.
  • Aid in developing business proposals for existing and potential customers.
  • Prepare & develop budget forecasts to project potential monetary opportunities.
  • Enter and process data information accurately into various computer applications to ensure data integrity.
  • Promote and encourage the organization’s mission, vision, values, and philosophy.
  • Adhere to the organization’s code of conduct, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain and promote a professional image within the organization and throughout the community.
  • Appropriately bring to management’s attention actual or potential violations of UCM’s code of conduct, standards, policies, and/or procedures.
  • Act as a team member within the department and organization to assist in accomplishing goals and objectives.
  • Attendance on the job, continuous education, training and meetings as scheduled.
  • Cooperate with supervisors and all levels of management involved in delegating, evaluating, and improving performance.
  • Exercise good judgment, decision making, and regard for safety within all aspects of the job and performance.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Prior experience or education in Accounting, Finance, or business is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of general business/accounting practices.
  • Must have good computer skills to fulfill job assignments, including Microsoft Suites.
  • Pass Background Checks including Department of Justice Criminal Record Checks, and/or that of previous states of residence.

Working Conditions

The Accounting Volunteer/Intern provides services in a diverse office and/or community environment. There may be exposure to loud noises, white noise, extended periods of sitting, various interruptions, and bright lighting. Special events, conferences, and other functions may require flexible hours.
