1.JACOB CHAPMAN
Jacob Chapman was born at StauntonVA about 1755 and died in
what is now NicholasCountyWVbetween 1840 and 1850.
Jacob went to GreenbrierCountyVA by 1771 and acquired
considerable land. He served in the militia at different times
during the American Revolution and later received a veteran's
pension. He was one of the rescue party that relieved Donally's
Fort in GreenbrierCounty when it was attacked by Indians in May
1778.
He married Margaret Burns June 16, 1779. Margaret was
probably a daughter of the James Burns who was killed during the
attack on Donally's Fort.
By 1797, the family had moved to what is now NicholasCounty
WV, but Jacob kept one parcel of land in GreenbrierCounty until
1819.
