Derbyshire Community Foundation

DCF offers funding and grant support to Derbyshire community and voluntary groups.

Priority is currently given to activities and groups that are working to:

·  Promote the advancement of health and well being

·  Prevent or relieve poverty

·  Support the most vulnerable in our communities such as children and young people, the elderly and isolated or individuals with mental health problems or disabilities

·  Enhance the quality of life to people living in our local communities

Dulverton Trust

Youth and Education – concerned with educational activities and opportunities for disadvantaged young people, helping them to achieve their true potential. This includes enabling young people at risk of offending or exclusion to access education and employment. The Trust supports a wide range of activities that benefit disadvantaged people and communities, with particular interest in:

·  Maintaining active living and independence for older people

·  Strengthening and supporting family relationships

·  The welfare of children in disadvantaged families and of children in care

·  Supporting carers

·  The rehabilitation of prisoners and ex-offenders and help for their families to rebuild their lives

·  Helping young homeless people

·  The welfare of former members of the Armed Forces

Conservation – the Trust is keen to support the general conservation and protection of wildlife habitats within the UK. They also encourage projects concerning the protection and sympathetic management of trees and native woodlands.

Preservation – the Trust is interested in the preservation of outstanding historic artefacts and buildings of national importance.

Equitable Charitable Trust

This is an education charity. It makes grants totally up to £1 million each year towards projects for children and young people under the age of 25 who are from disadvantaged backgrounds or disabled.

There are 3 specific priorities

·  Education projects or services that support the learning and development of disabled children and young people in the UK

·  Formal education projects for disadvantaged children and young people that support delivery of the National Curriculum or that deliver accredited vocational learning that will increase employability.

·  Education projects that will help increase participation in, or improve the quality of education for disadvantaged or disabled children and young people in developing countries.

The Ernest Cook Trust – this trust supports organisations providing training schemes in practical conservation skills, rural craft training schemes and training for homeless and unemployed young people. For more information – www.ernestcooktrust.org.uk

Esmee Fairbairn – there are four ideas of interest – the arts, education and learning, the environment and enabling disadvantaged people to participate fully in society. Garfield Weston Foundation

Foyle Foundation – registered charities

Small Grants Scheme – designed to support smaller charities in the UK, especially those working at a grass roots and local community level, in any field, across a wide range of activities.

Applications are welcomed from charities that have an annual turnover of less than £100,000 per annum.

How much can you apply for? One year’s grant of between £1,000 and £10,000 to charities which can demonstrate that such a grant will make a significant difference to their work. There are no deadlines for submission.

Main Grants Scheme

This scheme is designed to support smaller charities in the UK, especially those working at grass roots and local community level, in any field, across a wide range of activities.

Applications are welcomed from charities that have an annual turnover of less than £100,000 per annum.

Arts – supporting projects in either the performing or visual arts e.g.

·  helping to make the arts more accessible by developing new audiences, supporting tours, festivals and arts educational projects

·  encouraging new work and supporting young and emerging artists

·  building projects that improve or re-equip existing arts venues

Grants are generally funded for specific projects/activities. Applications will be considered for core funding (but generally only from smaller organisations or from those not receiving recurrent revenue funding from the Arts Council or Local Authorities)

Learning –supports projects which facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and which have a long-term strategic impact. Key areas for support are:

·  libraries, museums and archives;

·  special educational needs and learning difficulties;

How much can you apply for? The majority grants will be in the range of £10,000 to £50,000. Applications for less than £10,000 per annum will generally not be accepted.

The maximum amount of a large grant will not normally exceed £500,000 and may be payable over several years.

Jill Frankin Trust

This trust is looking for grant applications for between £500 and £1,000 in the following areas:

·  Self help groups, advice, training and employment to support people with a mental illness or learning difficulties and their carers

·  Respite care, and holidays (in the UK only).

·  Organisations helping and supporting refugees and asylum-seekers coming to or are in the UK

·  The restoration of churches of architectural importance

Newby Trust – (managed by Newby Trust) – relief of medical, social and educational need. Who can apply? Registered charities, including educational institutions. What is available? Generally smaller grants up to £1,000 and larger grants up to £10,000. The Newby Trust Ltd supports activities relating to: medical welfare, education, training and research, relief of poverty – small grants to individuals in need. Maurice Wohl Charitable Foundation

The aims of the Foundation are to support causes in the following areas:

Nominet Trust – there are many ways in which the internet can bring about change. The trust supports projects that demonstrate how they will contribute to a safe, accessible online world, which offers opportunities to improve lives and committees:

Rayne Foundation – Rayne Grants

They work within four sectors:

The Triangle Trust Fund

The Trust’s current areas of interest for support are:

Trusthouse Charitable Foundation

Gives grants for running costs or one-off capital costs to charities and not-for-profit organisations in accordance with criteria that are regularly reviewed. There are two themes – Rural Issues and Urban Deprivation. Within those two themes the foundation is interested in three areas:

ü  Disability and Healthcare (physical and mental disability, palliative care, medicine)

Yapp Charitable Trust
