DEPUTY SAFETY OFFICER

(Part Time)

A rare opportunity has arisen to join the Match Day Safety team at Middlesbrough Football Club. We are currently seeking to recruit a Deputy Safety Officer at the Riverside Stadium. This will be a part time role working 21 hours per week plus the requirement towork all first team home fixtures and occasional ad hoc events.

The Role

The main purpose of the Deputy Safety Officer role is the development, organisation, planning and delivery of all aspects of match day safety, security and counter terror. It will involve:

  • Delivering all aspects of people management for the match day safety team, including, appraisals, training, recruitment and performance management.
  • Deputising in the absence of the Chief Safety Officer
  • Leading MFC internal and external safety meetings as required
  • Developing and reviewing match day policies and processes
  • Managing, maintaining and updating supporter suspension and ban policy and databases
  • Liaising with internal departments and external agencies to ensure safe event operations
  • Facilitating evaluations, trials, reporting processes and implementation relating to new projects or initiatives

The Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have significant organisational experience in crowded environments, preferably sports related. They will also have:

  • Experience of managing and communicating with a large team
  • Knowledge of safety and security arrangements at mass gathering events, including counter terror
  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in Spectator Safety Management or prepared to work towards this qualification
  • Capability to organise and deliver detailed plans and policies, including contingency plans and risk assessments
  • Significant interviewing skills and ability to analyse challenging incidents
  • Strong leadership, organisational, communication and negotiating skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner
  • Ability to work in a multi-task, highly pressurised environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment with self-motivation and enthusiasm
  • A strong customer service ethos
  • Computer literate, familiar with Microsoft office or similar packages
  • Knowledge and experience of systems in relation to evidential video recording and communications systems
