Organization Description:
The REACH Center works with nearly 3,000 at-risk youth and young adults ages 16-24 each year to provide them with educational opportunities, career development, peer mentoring, and other supportive services. REACH has a strong track record of leveraging institutional partnerships to serve young people, and coordinates programs that annually place over 500 people in jobs, graduate 50 students on average from GED classes, and provide permanent housing for up to 75 youth experiencing homelessness. REACH is at the forefront of youth development, career readiness, and the fight against youth homelessness in the Greater Puget Sound Region. The work of the REACH Center contributes to positive systems change and has sparked interest in widespread replication of the REACH service delivery model.
Position Description:
The REACH Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced operational leader to work under the supervision of the REACH Center Director to ensure that REACH Center policies, procedures, facilities, and partnerships function to maximum efficiency and impact on behalf of regional youth and young adults. The Deputy Director supervises a talented and dedicated team of intake, outreach, and program coordination staff and manages the logistical operation of REACH and the activities of the many partnering organizations co-located at REACH. The Deputy Director serves as a spokesperson for REACH to the community—including foundations, elected officials, compliance managers, and nonprofit, education, and business leaders—and as lead site supervisor in the absence of the Director. The Deputy Director will also take on special projects related to organizational growth as they become available.
Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the team of staff and partners providing the logistics of day-to-day walk-in services of REACH, including intake activities, onsite programs, data tracking, professional development activities, and community outreach.
  • Develop and implement onboarding, screening, and training activities for temporary REACH staff, including AmeriCorps members and college interns.
  • Coordinate logistics ofonsite REACH partners, convening regular meetings, developing annual MOU agreements, providing orientations and access to IT and other building services.
  • Ensure that REACH programs align with contracted target outcome goals and that programs are making progress against those goals.
  • Develop policies and procedures that support a safe, supportive, and productive work environment for staff and participants in consultation with the REACH Director.
  • Ensure timely and accurate input of participant data into the REACH database, including detailed notes of interactions with participants and enrollments into new programs.
  • Serve as the primary disciplinary representative for REACH, managing the messaging of behavioral expectations to participants and managing responses to behavioral incidents.
  • Participate in community outreach, networking meetings, conferences, and professional development trainings as needed.
  • Serve as an effective emissary to the community—including foundations, elected officials, compliance managers, and nonprofit, education, and business leaders—on behalf of REACH.
  • Serve as lead site supervisor in the Director’s absence.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience Required and Desirable Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, public policy,social work, or a related field required. Master’s degree in counseling, public administration, education, or a related field preferred.
  • A strong track record of leadership in organizational growth.
  • Three to five years of program management and/or volunteer coordination experience—especially in program serving at-risk youth and young adults.
  • Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills with demonstrable related experience
  • Basic understanding of the principles and best practices of grant writing
  • Understanding of grant management practices and contract compliance
  • High degree of emotional maturity and cultural competence, particularly as it relates to working with LGBTQ populations and at-risk youth and young adults
  • Ability to work with individuals of varying skills and backgrounds
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Strong data management and analytical skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to changing needs, priorities, and timelines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Flexibility and adaptability with work schedule, which may include occasional evenings or weekends
  • Training in the following is desirable but not required: trauma informed care, LGBTQ cultural competency, racial equity and anti-racist institutions, domestic violence, commercial and sexual exploitation of children (CSEC), and vicarious trauma.
  • Washington Drivers License and business-use vehicle insurance required by time of hire
Salary Range: $50,000-55,000 per year, depending on qualifications. This is a grant-funded position and its continuation beyond the fall of 2018 is contingent on acquisition of new funding sources.
