Deputy Convener and Members Reappointed to Cairngorms National Park Authority

The Minister for Environment and Climate Change today announced the reappointments of four members to the Board of Cairngorms National Park.
Cairngorms National Park Authority is non-departmental public body. Established in 2003 under the National Parks (Scotland) Act 2003. The Government funds CNPA and Ministerial appointed Board members are a part of the full board, in conjunction with directly elected and local authority nominated members. The purpose of the National Park Authority is to deliver the four statutory aims for the National Park in a collective and coordinated way.

Brian Wood
Brian is a formerly Rector of Haylehead Academy in Aberdeen and Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk. Currently an Honorary Sheriff and Justice of the peace in Grampian, Highland and Islands sitting in Aberdeen Justice of the Peace. Brian is now retired and living in Stonehaven and Braemar. Chair of the St Margaret’s Project in Braemar and a volunteer guide at Braemar Castle.

Angela Douglasis chartered forester with over 22 years professional forestry and environmental experience, skills and knowledge. She has worked across areas of the private, public and charitable sectors often in partnership. She enjoys a challenge and works constructively with others across strategic, operational, policy, relationship development, governance, land management and engagement work. Established own independent forestry, management and environmental consultancy ‘A Douglas Consultancy’ in 2010, previously having been Woodland Trust Scotland director for 12 years managing a very varied 21,000 acre estate. She also undertakes international FSC forest management and chain of custody certification work.
Gordon Riddlergraduated in Geology, Business Administration and Chartered Engineering with an international career spanning private enterprises, public sector and academia, having experience in stock exchange listing, corporate governance and managing large projects. Engaged in research and development related to environmental engineering, waste management, land use optimisation and Geo-diversity.
For many years, Gordon has actively been in the voluntary sector in various capacities, solving funds, providing administrative support and engaging in community action planning. He is also a founding member and trustee of the European Minerals Industry Reporting Standards Committee.
Gregor Hutcheon, a resident of Strathdon on the eastern fringes of the National Park, brings nearly 20 years of experience of the environmental, heritage and voluntary sectors. A graduate of Aberdeen University, he has recently returned to Aberdeenshire after a varied career championing the countryside and the wider environment and its role in underpinning our quality of life. Including stints with the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) and the National Trust. He brings knowledge of rural business development, planning and land use
The reappointments will be for four years and will run from 1 Octobers 2014 to 30 September 2018.
This reappointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £201.82 per day for a time commitment of two to three days per month for members and four to five days for Deputy Convener.

Angela Douglas is a member of the FCS- NFLS Evaluation panel and receives remuneration of £240 per day for a time commitment of four days a year. Gregor Hutcheon is a Director of the Cairngorm Access Trust, and he receives no remuneration for a time commitment of 0.5 day per month. Brain Wood is a Justice of the Peace and Honorary Sheriff for which he receives no remuneration. Gordon Riddler does not hold any other ministerial appointments
This reappointment is regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.
All appointments are made on merit, and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. None of the members has had any political activity in the last five years.
