A workshop in the writing of works of fiction and non-fiction in shorter forms.

5.Learning Outcomes [§335.2]

Creative writing is a workshop course, which requires students to be in the constant process of writing and revising their creative works. Students are writing in a variety of genre with the goal of creating a course manuscript or portfolio. These are used to evaluate student progress and as a self-evaluation tool as students consider their growth in writing.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Apply terminology and techniques of creative writing (such as symbolism, irony, metaphor, archetype, myth, etc.)
  • Utilize experimentation and innovation in the writing process
  • Identify writing problems the creative artist often encounters
  • Identify that discovering individual voice is a developing process
  • Apply the knowledge of how to seek publication of their work and submit work for possible publication in the College’s literary journals and other journals
