Through Octavia Support, we offer a wide range of care and support services to older and vulnerable adults living in west and central London but we specialise in providing care for those experiencing dementia or with complex needs.

We provide housing with different levels of care and support, floating support and outreach services, and day care and activity centres. Flexibility is a key part of all of our care and support services as our focus is on the individual - helping people to stay as active and independent as possible.

Role Purpose

  1. To manage the on-site staff team to deliver a reliable, responsive, and respectful person centred care and support service to residents and service users, and deputising for the Extra Care Manager as required
  2. To ensure that the quality of care and support is appropriate to the needs of individuals (i.e. physical, social, cultural and emotional) including working on shift with staff.
  3. To ensure the building and environment is safe and secure for residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities – to be undertaken in association with the Key Competencies

  1. To lead and manage the onsite staff team to deliver a reliable, responsive, and respectful person centred care and support service to all residents and service users
  2. Ensure the Care Quality Commission standards are met by staff at all times..
  3. Monitor that the quality of care is appropriate to the needs of individuals, e.g. physical, social, cultural and emotional and that needs assessments, care plans and risk assessments are followed.
  4. Ensure that the Association’s policy on care is followed, a stimulating, welcoming and safe environment is maintained, the rights of residents are respected and that they are allowed to take appropriate risks.
  5. To assure need and risk assessments and support plans are of a high standard and developed with the older person and agreed outcomes are achieved.
  6. Support staff to work to agreed care & support plans for individual residents and to all policies and procedures.
  7. To assure all reasonable means to safeguard service users are implemented and alerts arising regarding any concerns.
  8. Ensure that appropriate tenant records are maintained that are kept up to date to support and enable quality of care, are accessible to residents, and are aimed at monitoring and developing self care, social skills & communication.
  9. To co-ordinate a programme of leisure interests and education as well as vocational and therapeutic activities.
  10. Ensure Residents are enabled to maximise their potentials as individuals, to assist in monitoring and assessing quality of services, in formulating strategies for quality assurance and in developing self auditing systems for all aspects of service delivery.
  11. Participate in the investigation of any complaints and/or safeguarding incidents and feedback results.
  12. Negotiate, consult and liaise with Social Services Managers, daycare, fieldwork, health authority, voluntary organisations and other professionals to support residents, the service and integration with other local services & professionals.
  13. Manage adequate staff resourcing to deliver services at all times and cover in the absence of other staff as necessary.

  • At least 3 years experience in delivering high quality care and support services to people (including those with complex health and social care needs)

A good base of job-related skill and experience and being able to apply this effectively on the job; collecting and analysing information; being aware of what is going on in the organisation. Specifically, a working knowledge of:
  • Current good practice in meeting care and support needs of older people and/or those with dementia, mental health, disability or learning difficulties and understanding needs (physical, social, cultural and emotional).
  • Safeguarding vulnerable people
  • Up to date Legislation including Health and Social Care Act 2014 and health and safety in care and support setting

4 / Qualifications:
Good standard of general education, preferably including GCSEs in Maths and English (or comparable)
Social Care, or Health related qualification
Recognisable qualification in Leadership & Management or equivalent or ability to complete (including QCF (level 5) or residential care manager NVQ level 4) / E

You will be required to work early morning, late evening, weekends and bank holidays to be able at times to ensure you effectively manage the team.
This role provides regulated activities under the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Therefore, post holders are required to undertake a regular DBS check to ensure anyone who presents a known risk is prevented from working with vulnerable people. / E
