direction.

  1. Demonstrate driving a forklift in a cross-shaped pattern, in both a forward and backward direction.

5. Review with the trainees the situation of attempting to lift a load greater than

the rated capacity of the truck. Emphasize how rear wheel steering will be lifted off the floor making steering impossible. Emphasize that the front wheels are the fulcrum point for carrying the loads.

The Trainees Now Practice and Must Be Able To Do:

  1. Drive a lift truck in a straight line, in both a forward and backward direction.
  2. Drive a forklift in a circle, in both a forward and backward direction.
  3. Drive a lift truck in a cross, making clean turns, in both a forward and backward direction.
  4. Drive a forklift in tight spaces, making smooth turns, in both a forward and backward direction.

Summary of Session #2

  1. Summarize the session and emphasize the importance of safety, especially

that of each individual operator/trainee.

  1. Answer any questions the trainees have.
  2. Allow adequate time for trainees to practice in the driving area.

Demonstration and Practice Session # 3

Prerequisites

1. Arrange for appropriate forklifts to be available in a safe, designated area

that is located away from production or warehouse operations.

  1. Arrange for actual loads to be present in the practice area.
  2. The practice driving areas should be set up to allow for the following maneuvers:
  1. Driving up and down inclines with and without a load.
  2. Moving and stacking loads – simulated loading dock.
  3. Moving and stacking loads – simulated production conditions.

The Trainer Now Demonstrates the Following:

  1. Demonstrate driving up and down an incline without a load.
  2. Demonstrate picking up a load.
  3. Demonstrate driving up and down an incline with a load.
  4. Demonstrate picking up a load from a stack of ware (2 or 3 high) and moving each to a new area. Use a simulated dock or warehouse area.
  5. Demonstrate picking up a load off a conveyor and placing on a train.
  6. Demonstrate approved parking and shutting down a lift truck.

The Trainees Now Practice and Must Be Able To Do:

  1. Drive up and down an incline without a load.
  2. Pick up a load.
  3. Driving up and down an incline with a load.
  4. Pick up a load from a stack of boxes or ware and move to a new area in a simulated loading dock or warehouse set up.
  5. Pick up a load from a conveyor and place it on a train.
  6. Park and shut down a forklift in the approved manner.

Summary of Session #3

1. Summarize the session and emphasize the importance of safety, especially

that of each individual operator/trainee.

  1. Answer any questions the trainees have.
