BACKGROUND CHECK

All employees hired after July 1, 1998 will be subject to a criminal background investigation, including mandatory fingerprinting, at his or her expense, as a condition for employment in compliance with Deming Public School Board Policy # 205 Background Investigations. The total cost for a Coaching position is $110.00 ($75.00 for the criminal background check and $35.oo for the Coaching License, cashier’s check or money order payable to New Mexico Public Education Department. Deming Public Schools Applicant:

As of July 1, 2010 New Mexico law (SB 254) prohibits a public entity in the State of New Mexico from inquiring about an applicant’s criminal background information on an initial employment application. To comply with the legal requirement Deming Public Schools has removed all questions related to criminal history. However, it is important to note that, under the same New Mexico law, once an applicant becomes a finalist for the position, the employer is authorized to request and/or require criminal background information from the applicant.

If you have applied for employment in other states in addition to New Mexico, and your application is accessed by a public school employer outside the State of New Mexico, that employer is not bound by the provisions of the above law and may require you to provide criminal background information prior to consideration for the position.
