The event is free for all relevant professionals working in Hertfordshire.

This session is aimed at: Practitioners in Hertfordshire with a remit in dementia, health and social care leads, public health professionals, health improvements leads, voluntary sector, primary care, GP’s, pharmacists andnurses.

  • What are the key public health issues relating to dementia?
  • What does current research say about the support that people living with dementia and their family carers need?
  • What are the current and emerging messages for dementia prevention noting the limitations in the evidence?
  • How can we apply prevention messages and approaches to our work?

Learning Outcomes

  • Provide a brief definition of the main types of dementia.
  • Participants will have an understanding of up-to-date trends in dementia.
  • Participants will have an understanding of current research relating to modifiable risk factors for dementia.
  • Participants will improve their knowledge of the three levels of prevention (primary, secondary and tertiary).
  • Participants will explore how they can incorporate prevention approaches as part of their day to day work.

Presenter: Dr Frances Bunn trained as a nurse at Kings College London before moving into health care research. Key areas of interest are systematic reviews and evidence synthesis, dementia and evidence informed practice and policy. Recent work includes NIHR funded studies on the diagnosis and treatment of dementia (EXPLORE DD), the organisation and delivery of health care services for people with dementia and a comorbid condition.
