It’s time for Book Talks!
We are going to explore a mystery book series called The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner. The characters in the book are very responsible, independent children. They cooperate with each other and are able to create a “home” out of an old train boxcar. I am introducing the children to the first mystery.
For the book talk project, your child has chosen one of the Boxcar Children books from the series to read at home. On Nov. 20th, your student will give an oral presentation to the class summarizing their book. In the presentation, they must include- title, author, illustrator, genre, characters, setting, and a summary. The summary is a brief retelling of the story with the main events, problem, and solution. This is not a written book talk; however, they may bring a sheet of notes or index cards as memory aids.
In addition to the presentation, they are to make a shadow box of their favorite scene from the mystery they are reading. It is to be done in a shoebox.
The oral presentation and shadow box are due on Thursday, Nov. 19th. We will present the projects the following day, Friday, Nov. 20th. This project will count as a daily grade for reading.
**Parents please sign the the form below and return it to class.
