August2017

Dear Students & Parents,

It is my pleasure to introduce myself to you. My name is Mrs. Korie Mitchell, andthis will be my 12th year teaching. I am so excited to learn with you this year!

I live in Libertyville, and this is my 4th year on the Isaac Fox 1st grade team. I previously taught in Gurnee, IL as well as in Nebraska. I have experience teachingall grades Kindergarten - 6th, including teaching students learning English as a new language. I have a master’s degree in instructional technology school library. I am currently working on a second master’s degree to become certified as a Reading Specialist.

My husband and I have a son, Kyle, who is an active toddler loves the outdoors. We have taken many trips to the beach and to playgrounds this summer. I like reading, cooking, camping, photography, swimming, and travelling (I’ve been to all 50 of the U.S. States and 11 foreign countries). I LOVE learning and trying new things!

First grade is such an exciting year for students because there is so much growing that we do. I can’t wait to partner with you in helping your child blossom this year. Sometimes trying or learning something new can be difficult or even scary. It takes a long time to become an expert at something that challenges you. Science has proven that the only way to get better at something is to work really, really hard at it over a long time … even if you make a lot of mistakes. In first grade, we will try new things, make mistakes, and then learn from them. We will have many challenges that will help us grow our brains. We will learn about how to use effective effort to grow and learn, and we will work together as a team to help each other along the way!

I hope you have had a wonderful summer break and I am looking forward to getting to know you better. We will have a great year learning together!Welcome to our class. Let’s get to work!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Mitchell
