Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!! I look forward to an exciting and successful year in 8th grade science. In this letter you will find some basic information about my classroom. Please take some time to read over this material and sign it below. This entire paper is to be returned to me by Friday, September 5, 2014. This will be counted as a “checked” assignment.

Checked Assignments
n Every assignment will have a due date.
n No points will be given for incomplete or late assignments.
n Checked assignments are graded based on completion.
Make-up Assignments
n Students are responsible for making up all work missed during a class absence.
n Students leaving school early for any scheduled reason (sports, appointments, etc.) will be expected to complete all assigned work for the day.
n Generally, students will have one day for each missed day to make up work.
Notebooks
n Students will be using a bound composition book as a notebook. Notebooks will be collected and graded at least one time each marking period.
n Students will be required to have either a pocket folder or a section of a binder to store science worksheets, handouts, and other important papers. These papers will be collected at the end of each module and counted as an additional notebook grade.
Projects
n There will be several projects assigned throughout the school year. Some of these will be completed in class while others will need to be completed at home. A rubric will be sent home describing each major project and how it will be graded.
Extra Help
n Extra help will be available after school on selected days.
Grading
n Every assignment will be graded.
n Anyone caught cheating or copying will be given a “0” for that assignment.
n Students will earn class points based on the following:
n preparedness
n punctuality
n work completion
n behavior
n participation
n attention to task
n graded assignments
n Marking period averages will be calculated as follows:
n 10% Checked Assignments

n 40% Class Points
Skyward
n Students and parents are encouraged to check Skyward on a regular basis.
n Long-range assignments will be posted once they are announced.
n The calendar feature has proven to be quite helpful in terms of time management.
n If an assignment is listed as “missing”, please don’t panic. If the assignment was turned in and you see this comment, it simply means that I have not yet entered a grade for it.
n I will enter a grade of “0” for any assignment that has not been turned in. If the assignment is eligible to be made up (student was absent, etc.) the grade will be adjusted once the assignment is made up.
Parent Contact
n I will contact parents throughout the year either by phone, e-mail, or via assignment books.
n Please feel free to contact with any questions or concerns. The easiest way to reach me is via email – .
n Parents, if you would like me to contact you via e-mail please neatly print your e-mail address here:
