Verbal Behavior Special Interest Group

The Association for Behavior Analysis

STUDENT RESEARCH COMPETITION

January 5, 2009

One of the missions of the VB SIG is to promote research in the area of verbal behavior. One way of accomplishing this mission is to provide awards to students conducting research in verbal behavior.

We are pleased to announce the 2009 student research competition of the VB SIG. A submitted paper must be original research in the area of verbal behavior with an undergraduate or graduate student as the first author. A submitted paper can be a conceptual analysis, a basic research study, or an investigation conducted under an applied framework. Submissions are restricted to current student members of ABA or individuals in their first year after graduation from the school in which they conducted the research. Submissions must adhere to APA publication guidelines and be no longer than 30 pages not including references and figures.

Students can receive assistance with reducing the length of their theses and dissertations to 30 pages by sending an email to the address below in advance of the deadline.

Submissions will be reviewed (blind) by advanced researchers in verbal behavior and awards will be presented to the authors of the papers with the three highest rankings. All winners will be presented with a new issue of The Analysis of Verbal Behavior journal and a plaque at the VB SIG meeting at the 2009 ABA conference in Phoenix. In addition, the first place winner will receive $50 and the second place winner will receive $30.

Please send questions and submissions with contact information to Judah Axe at:

The deadline for submission is Monday, March 2, 2009. Notification of award status will be no later than Monday, May 4, 2009.

Best of luck to all student researchers who submit a verbal behavior paper!
