Dear Parents/Guardians,June, 2017
The 2017football season will begin on Monday, August 14th at 7:30 a.m. All players should report to the high school football locker room by that time with shorts, t-shirt, sneakers, and cleats. We will begin practice immediately after distributing equipment that morning. Players should keep all of their assigned equipment and valuables locked in their lockers (locks are provided). Players should be prepared to practice indoors with sneakers and shorts and outdoors in cleats each day.
A calendar of practices and games is included. Practices may be subject to change due to heat index, inclement weather, field conditions, or any other unforeseen variable. Please note that we will practice onSaturdays and holidays. Please do not schedule college visits, or long weekends during the season. Players are expected to attend all practices throughout the season.
Also, note that many of the practices during the summerare double sessions. Players may either leave during the break, or pack a lunch and eat in the locker room. Players may not enter any other part of the building during the break. Players must return for the afternoon practice. It is easy and tempting for players to miss this session for numerous reasons including; oversleeping, mechanical problems, traffic delays, etc. Skipping the afternoon portion of practice for any reason other than a legal NY State excuse will not be tolerated and will result in a penalty and possible dismissal. If players choose to leave for lunch they must leave enough time to return to practice to accommodate any unforeseen circumstances such as the aforementioned.
Each player must be registered through Family ID bySunday, 8/6 in order to be eligible to participate on the first day of practice. Information regarding Family ID is on the Jamesville Dewitt Athletic web site. The Athletic Office will also send out a blast email regarding Family ID to all those signed up to receive email blasts.
Players must also have verification on file of a current, completed physical dated after 7/31/16. If an individual did not have their physical completed at the high school then they must submit a copy of a current physical to the high school nurses office by Monday, August 7th. Please keep a copy of your physical paperwork. The school does not offer physicals during the summer. State law prohibits players from participating in practice unless their physical is up to date and has been verified by the nurse, and they have properly completed the Family ID registration. In addition, any player who has required the use of an inhaler or epi-pen on record at school, must have medical clearance and the device on hand for all practices or will not be eligible to participate.
Please be advised that New York State requires a minimum number of practices to be eligible for the scrimmage and the first game. Due to these requirements,players must be in attendance, and be able to participate in summer practices beginning August 14th.
Please encourage your sons to participate in the football activities we have to offer during the summer. Our High School Player Camp will be held June 26th-29th from 1-4 pm. Our team thud camp will be held July 11th-13th from 5-8pm. Please go to Jamesvilledewitt.org, athletics, summer camps, for camp brochures. Doing so will aid us in developing the championship caliber program that the residents of this community want and deserve. The last day of football will be the Monday after we lose our last game of the season. That Monday’s practice is mandatory for all players to turn in their equipment and is considered a practice day and a part of the season. Failure to attend may result in loss of varsity letter, forfeiture of nominations for post season awards, and recognitions, and nominations for all-star games or teams. Absent from school is not a legal NY State excuse to justify missing this day!
