Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

Please join us for Curriculum Night on Thursday, February 18 here at Sunset High School. All students who plan to attend Sunset next year are strongly encouraged to attend. An agenda is included with this letter and describes opportunities to learn about our overall academic program, International Baccalaureate (IB), and post high school planning, and for incoming 9th grade families to meet with their child’s counselor.

Sessions will be available for all grades throughout the evening. Incoming 9th grade families should plan to attend the 6:00 pm session then select from available sessions for the remainder of the evening. Returning students and families should plan to arrive for sessions starting after 6:45 p.m. All sessions will conclude at 9:00 pm. Please be advised that parking will be limited, so if you are able to carpool or walk, we encourage you to do so.

In the next few weeks all students will receive forecasting forms and be directed to our online Program Planning Guide. The Program Planning Guide contains information regarding all of our course offerings in grades nine through twelve. It also suggests courses of study and outlines graduation requirements. Completed forecasting forms and Four Year Plans should be signed by a parent/guardian and the student and returned to your current school during the week of February 22.

Students living outside of the Sunset boundary who are hoping to attend via an administrative transfer should not submit a forecasting sheet to Sunset until they have received confirmation of acceptance. Due to increased demand, we have a limited number of openings so we encourage families to submit their request for transfer by March 15.

Sunset counselors will visit incoming 9th grade students at their current middle school to distribute forecasting materials and help students begin the forecasting process for next year’s classes. Counselors will be at Stoller on February 17, Cedar Park on February 18, and Meadow Park on February 16. Current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will receive forecasting materials in Advisory on February 10.

Information provided at a variety of sessions will assist your student with the forecasting of courses for 2016-2017. Accurate information on our forecasting sheets is essential as these selections will determine our school’s master schedule and your child’s course load in the fall. We hope you can attend this event to gather all necessary information for completing your forecasting forms.

We look forward to seeing you and your student on the evening of February 18!

Sincerely,

John Huelskamp

Principal
