Dear Parents / Carers

December 2014 Newsletter

We start this newsletter with news of a very special Christmas baby! Mrs Hamimmi has had a little boy, Ryan Christopher. Both mother and baby are doing well. We all send them our very best wishes!

The lovely photograph is of our ‘Remembrance’ themed Christmas tree in the Entrance Hall. It is covered in decorations such as poppies, prayer cards and remembrance crosses.

St. George’s Christingle – Christmas Eve

There will be a Christingle Service at St. George’s Church at 6.00pm on Christmas Eve to which you are all invited. Perhaps the new Bishop of Stockport will be there! Any money raised will go to The Children’s Society.

Active Citizen Award

Congratulations to Ella Cullen who has been presented with our Active Citizen Award. Ella was chosen because of the support that she gives to the younger children – especially at dinner times as a ‘mini-play leader’. Ella is so thoughtful and considerate of the needs of other children. We are so proud of everything that she does at school and Ella embodies everything that is good about the children of Cale Green!

We are Active Citizens!

Around this time of year especially we stress the contribution that the children can make to those less fortunate than themselves. The children recently raised £370.00 for the Royal British Legion by selling Poppies and gifts in the playground before and after school. The collection was presented to a representative of the Royal British Legion following a 2 minutes silence (just after the World War I Tea morning and Dance).

Children, staff and parents have also had fun raising £265.00 for Millie’s Trust and £185.00 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, We sold £56.00 worth of tickets for the Wellspring Christmas draw and the children also raised an incredible £ 350.00 for Children In Need by holding a ‘Spots and Superheroes’ No Uniform Day and a fabulous cake sale. Thank you to all for your contributions!

Health and Safety – Shaw Road South

Please be extra careful when parking and / or crossing the road on Shaw Rd South near to the main entrance to school. Please encourage your children to walk along the pavement and not cross the road in front of school.

Residents have also asked parents to be considerate when parking in a morning – especially across driveways.

Access to School – Green Street Entrance Closed

The new build is progressing well. However, the pedestrian gate on Green Street will now be closed until September for access for building material deliveries etc. Please use the gate on Meyer St. or the main entrance on Shaw Rd South. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Fix It Time

The earlier start to school has been quickly and firmly established and so will continue after the holidays. The staff report that there is a much more ordered start to the day and that the children quickly settle, review their learning and complete any challenge / extension tasks and / or corrections. The children have told us that they really like the new arrangements too!

Wriggles and Jiggles

The pre-school activity group, ‘Wriggles and Jiggles’ will now take place on a Monday from 10.00 – 11.00. This course will run until Easter. There is no cost for this singing and movement session which is for parents / carers and babies up to 18months old. The first session will be on Monday 12th January.

There are a wide range of courses and activities on offer at the Abacus Children’s Centre. We have leaflets detailing these in the entrance hall at school. Alternatively please contact the Centre on 0161 474 5043

School Opening

School will re-open after the Christmas holidays on Monday 5th January 2014.

Special Achievement

Well done to Kiera Horsfield, Luke Stearns, Luke Hardman and Billy Walsh who have all achieved 50 stars on their Cale Green Achievement Charts. They will all visit ‘Simply Books’ to choose their book prize and receive their GOLD merit badges as well as being presented with their books in Family Assembly. Well done!

We hope that you all enjoy your Christmas celebrations and on behalf of the staff and governors at Cale Green we wish all the children, their families and friends and all the residents of Cale Green a very happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.

Yours sincerely,

D.Marshall
