SHAPE YOUR CHILD’S FUTURE FOR LEARNING

www.gymbaroo.com.au

What is GymbaROO?

GymbaROO is a parent/child education program run by qualified teachers. The program offers classes of age appropriate weekly sessions for babies as young as 6 weeks to children of 5 years. The classes enable parents to be actively involved in their child’s development.

Children learn more in their first few years than in any other time of their lives. Recent research has shown that appropriate learning experiences and stimulating activities in these early years can have a positive impact on a child’s entire life. GymbaROO offers a broad range of experiences within a loving, caring and supportive environment. We aim to encourage happy and bright children who love learning and are given every opportunity to reach their full potential in life. What more could a parent ask for?

Of course, above all, GymbaROO is lots and lots of fun. Children love it. Parents love it. There is nothing quite as rewarding as being actively involved in your child’s development. You watch them brighten with excitement and participate with enthusiasm as you help them experience the pure joy of learning.

The team at Mosman GymbaROO welcomes you to our centre and look forward to assisting and advising you on how best to facilitate this important and exciting early learning stage of gross motor development.

Yours Sincerely,

Bernice Eriksson

GymbaROO for babies from 6/8 weeks of age

In this precious quality time with your baby, you learn how to provide sensory motor activities that help your infant to learn more about themselves and their world, so that their brain can amass important information on which later learning is so dependent. Activities include stimulating babies by singing, massage, exercises, music, dancing, tummy time and using special large equipment for our babies.

GymbaROO for Creepers and Crawlers

Once your baby begins to move on tummy or hands and knees they are ready for the challenge of the mobile program. Less time for massage and more time for strengthening skills! We work on ladders to help build those muscles needed for walking. Hand skills become more purposeful over the next few months, so lots of activities are done to strengthen these important muscles, later used for writing. During mat time emphasis is on body awareness as they take part in the musical activities by rocking or swaying or singing!

GymbaROO for 1 year olds

An exciting, safe environment in which children can experiment and explore. With parents there, this age group feel secure, but have the independence to try out fun new activities, learning about space and balance. At about 18 months of age climbing starts to dominate their activities, and this is a perfect place to learn to climb safely.

GymbaROO for 2 year olds

Greater concentration and the desire to practice new skills of running, jumping, balancing and climbing enable our two year olds to tackle most of the equipment independently. The two and a half year olds refine movement with finger and action songs. At mat time, exciting challenges encourage them to use right and left automatically.

GymbaROO for 3, 4 and 5 year olds

At this age most children are confident to leave their parent’s side to enjoy the Sensory Perceptual Motor Program. This program challenges the children and refines their skills of jumping, throwing, balancing etc. with control. Co-operative games and advanced co-ordination skills extend this age. This requires children to motor plan i.e. think and move at the same time. This is a necessary skill for school readiness.

General Information

Free Play - We begin each session with free explorative play on our gym equipment with the support of the care giver. This is usually 10 minutes and may commence earlier if your class is the first one of the day.

Mat Time – Takes place in our mat room and may commence with bubble blowing, for the children to watch and catch and then we sing our welcome song followed by co-coordinated movements to music, essential skills, songs and rhymes, group dance, massage, vestibular activity and use of small equipment. We talk about our visualization theme for the week and children receive a stamp on their right hand and foot. (Please note that during this time the equipment area is closed).

Equipment time - We have a hall filled with large equipment that has been especially designed and made for young children. They will be experimenting with their bodies and learning about spatial awareness and their own capabilities.

Music and Parachute – We conclude our session with different percussion instruments and our big colourful parachute then comes out for the children to play with, lie under and relax. We sing our goodbye song; the children post their names and take home their visualization book with their theme word and picture. Once the class is finished please assist us by moving directly to the change area as there is no further equipment time allocated and the next class is beginning.

Treasure Bag for all Ages

Each term follows a theme and each week there is a new treasure bag theme and we encourage you to participate in this by bringing along a treasure bag item. The children get a lot of pleasure at seeing their own toys come out of the bag. It creates excellent visual and language stimulation, social interaction and it’s FUN!
