Assignment 2

Risk Management

We chose to do our job description and application on Land Management/PROGRAM LEADER/ NATURE CONSERVATION SECTION. It was a job both of us agreed could be fun and would have a lot of responsibilities. The job description and application was mostly good, but we did have a few suggestions.

One of the good qualities was that it gave a detailed job description. It not only gave you a general description, but it also told you all the sections you would be responsible for/that reported to you. They were pretty direct with what they were looking for. They had 10 essential skills they needed and 8 desirable skills in the job description. We also think they did a good job about not discriminating against people. Instead of asking for age, if the applicant was physically active, if they were some how disabled, or if the person had kids, they stated that a person must have “Preparedness to travel and be physically fit enough to work the camp in isolated areas when necessary. They also stated that a person must be able to portray effective verbal and written communication an also that they have possession of current motor vehicle driver’s license. This is a great way to avoid any race questions or personal questions.

In the application they do ask questions you want to avoid like: sex, date of birth, native land, but it says that filling this section out is totally optional-which is good. However, it also stated that by filling that section out helps them out with meeting diversity targets. Although it does portray minorities somewhat positively, it makes you wonder how optional that part really is. Or if a person might be considered less if they didn’t fill it out. We didn’t really have too many suggestions, our major suggestion related to the paragraph above. We thought instead of just asking for help meeting diversity targets, they should add that the job application is based solely on ability, qualifications and physical capabilities. This way they could avoid any false accusations about minority advantages. Other than that we maybe thought an employer should go through the description and application with employees they are looking to hire. This way they can clear up any questions and also help sort out some of the job description information, because there was a lot.
