Dear Parent/Guardian:

Your daughter/son has expressed an interest in becoming a member of the Atascocita High School cheerleading squad for the 2012-2013 year. If selected, there are certain personal and financial obligations that a cheerleader and his/her parents must assume in order to qualify, to participate, and to remain a member in good standing.

We will have a Pre Tryout Meeting on Tuesday, February 28th at 6:30 in the WHITE LGI (this is located on the west side of campus by the PAC entrance, upstairs). Tryouts for the Freshmen, JV, & COED Varsity teams will be in the small gym starting at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22nd & Friday, March 23rd. We will teach all tryout material in the clinic on Monday – Wednesday, March 19 – 21 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the small gym.

In the meantime, fully review the information in this packet with your son/daughter, as there are several items that cheer candidates must complete prior to tryouts. If I do not have the items listed in the packet then your child will be unable to participate until I receive them, no exceptions. If your child makes a team there will be a Mandatory Parent Meeting on March 27th at 6:00 p.m. in the Red LGI.

Thanks you for your interest in the AHS cheerleading program. We look forward to possibly meeting you in March!

Cheers,

Cindy Marches

AHS TRY-OUT REQUIREMENTS

Anyone interested in participating in AHS cheerleader try-outs must fulfill the following requirements:

1. Freshman Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Humble ISD middle school or planning on enrolling at Atascocita High School. Varsity/Junior Varsity Candidates must be currently enrolled at AHS or in Humble ISD. If a cheerleader candidate is enrolled at another HISD school and plans on trying out for Atascocita High School cheerleading then she MAY NOT tryout for any other HISD cheer squad.

2. Submit a completed Registration Packet to ON CAMPUS cheer sponsor by March 7th at 3:00 p.m.

3. Give Principal Evaluation Form & Teacher Evaluation Forms to the principal secretary & second semester teachers. They will complete these forms, place them in a sealed envelope, and will return them to the campus cheer sponsor or send to Mrs. Marches, AHS Campus via campus mail.

4. Submit a Sponsor Evaluation Form for all current cheerleaders. This form evaluates the candidate in the areas of: dependability, punctuality, squad behavior, peer interaction, and stunting. This evaluation will be included in the principal/teacher score.

6. All candidates must have the following minimum scores in order to receive teacher/principal points in try-outs:

a) Middle school cheerleaders with 7 classes and a sponsor evaluation must have a combined score higher than 30 points.

b) Current AHS Students or HISD transfer students, with 7 classes or 6 classes plus coach evaluation, must have a combined score higher than 30 points.

c) If a cheer candidate is not a current cheerleader then the teacher recommendations received will be average and entered in place of the sponsor evaluation.

8. Disqualification from Tryouts - Candidates may be disqualified from tryouts for the following reasons:

a) Being ineligible for two consecutive 6 week periods during the current school year.

b) Being removed or resigning from a squad during the current school year.

AHS Tryout Process

In order to better determine the selection of female squad members, candidates will try-out over a two day period. On Day One, Thursday, March 22nd, candidates will try-out in numerical order. On Day Two, Friday, March 23rd, candidates will try-out in REVERSE numerical order. All clinics and tryouts are closed to spectators.

Candidates will be judged on all aspects of cheerleading ability. Scores will be computed based upon the following areas: Teacher Evaluation, Principal Evaluation, Dance, Cheer Technique, Voice/Spirit/Enthusiasm, Jumps, and Sideline Chant (see examples below). Candidates who are not present for tryouts at their assigned tryout time forfeit the chance to tryout.

Selections: A panel of three outside judges has been assembled to select the squads. There is NO SET number of cheerleaders! Please refer to pages 5 – 7 of District Handbook for further information.

Attire: Cheer Candidates MUST wear black cheer shorts w/black or white spankies, white tank top, appropriate shoes, hair in pony tail, and white ribbon.
