Dear Parent/Guardian and Student:
Welcome to Foods I! The purpose of this class is to focus on the nutritional needs of the individual. Emphasis is placed on the relationship of diet to health, kitchen and meal management, and food preparation. Skills in science and mathematics are reinforced in this course. A $5 Foods fee is charged by Onslow County Schools to cover supplies and equipment.
Report cards will be distributed every six weeks, along with progress reports midway through the grading periods. Parent/Guardian input is always welcome. Please call the office to schedule conferences (910-326-4300).
Materials Needed: Two-inch, three-ring binder for storing papers,pen and pencil.
Absences: Students are expected to attend school every day.Parents may request assignments be sent home if the student will be absent for an extended period of time.
Grades will be based on tests, classwork andlabs. Students are responsible for all work missed. Parents may request that assignments be sent home if the student will be absent for an extended period of time.
Technology: Students will be using technology tools such as Edmodo, Office 365, Quia, etc. Our 9th and 10th graders will receive 1:1 laptops, supplied by the county, to use for school activities. If your child is a 11th or 12th grader, they can bring their own laptop, use their smart phone or use an available netbook to complete assignments. If a student constantly uses their cell phone for personal use, it will be confiscated and sent to the office because it is a distraction in learning.
Classroom rules are posted. Students are expected to be respectful and display good manners. They are also expected to ask questions, follow directions, and be prepared for class. For inappropriate behavior, students may receive a warning. Further options for discipline include detention and in-school suspension. Please read the Swansboro High School Student Handbook for details.
