Dear Math Team Sponsor,
Luella High School would like to invite you to participate in the LHS Middle School Math Invitational. The Invitational will be held November 14 at Luella High School in Locust Grove, GA.
The tournament will consist of only Middle School division. Students MUST take math at a middle school or elementary school in order to participate in this competition. If they take math at the high school (9th – 12th), they may not participate.
Teams will consist of no more than 4 players, and each school may bring up to 4 teams. Final scores for each school will be based off the top 4 individual scores and the top team ciphering score.
Each student will participate in a written exam which will consist of 30 multiple choice questions. Five tie breaker questions will be chosen in advance to break any ties. If a tie still exists, a 2nd medal will be ordered. Students will have 45 minutes to complete the written examination. No calculators may be used on this test.
All teams may participate in ciphering (if you do not have teams of four, you may divide them into teams of 3 or less). Ciphering will consist of 15 questions. If correctly answered in the first minute, a team will receive 5 points, in the 2nd minute, 3 points and in the 3rd minute, 1 point. There will be no penalty for incorrect answers. No calculators of any type will be permitted during ciphering.

Registration 8:30 – 9:15am
Individual Test 9:15 – 10:00am
Break 10:00 – 10:20 (snacks will be available for purchase)
Ciphering 10:30 – 11:30
Awards 12:00 – 12:15
Registration deadline is Friday, November 6, 2015. After that date, there will be a $15.00 late fee. No registrations will be accepted after Thursday November 12, 2015.
This year we will be utilizing divisions for the first time. We will have 2 divisions. There will be a NORTH division (anyone North of I-20 OR anyone that is out of state) and a SOUTH division (anyone South of I-20). Divisions will each receive Individual and Team awards.

There will be no vending area open during the competition, however; candy and drinks will be for sale before the competition, during the break and before the awards. Parents may NOT hang out in the sponsor’s room. That room is for bus drivers and sponsors only.
