June 2016

Dear Incoming Fourth Grade Students and Parents,

Welcome to the Fourth Grade. I am excited and looking forward to next year and the time we will spend together. Here are some important pieces of information regarding next school year.

1.) I am pleased to tell you that we will continue to utilize the IXL web site for the summer review and in our classroom next year. IXL is a comprehensive math practice site with an unlimited number of math practice questions in hundreds of skills. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child's progress!

To get your child started on your home computer or even at the local public library, please follow these easy steps:

1.  Go to www.IXL.com.

2.  Enter your child's username and password in the top right-hand corner and click Sign in.

*Your child’s username and password remained the same.

**If your child is new, then a username and password will be provided to your child. Please contact me at so that I may email you the information.

3.  Navigate to your child's grade level that they just completed – THIRD GRADE. The required skills and directions for this summer are found on a separate page.

4.  Find the skill to practice by doing one of the following:

·  Select the specific skill to practice from the grade level homepage. This page is organized into categories. You can place your mouse over each skill to see a sample question and click on the link to begin. Or

·  Click on the Awards tab. Each grade level has an embedded game board with challenges for your child to conquer and virtual prizes to be uncovered. Place your mouse over any challenge to begin.

In addition to making math practice exciting, IXL is designed to help your child learn at their own pace. The Web site is adaptive and will adjust to your child's demonstrated ability level.

I hope you'll encourage your son or daughter to use IXL daily. Here's to working together to make math fun for your child!!

2.) Next year’s supply list was discussed in school and will be available on the school website to view (www.ambs.org). Please adhere to the list and leave “any extras” at home.

3.) Mrs. Manzo discussed and will post the Summer Reading requirements.

4.) The summer work is due on Monday, September 12th, 2016. These will be your first graded assignments for Reading/Language Arts for Mrs. Manzo and Math for Ms. Payonzeck. Late summer work will result in a lower grade.

If you work on each subject a little each day, the work won’t seem so overwhelming, especially if you were to leave it all to the end of the summer.

Sincerely,

Ms. Payonzeck
