Dear First Grader,
Welcome to First Grade! I am very excited about our year and can’t wait to get to know you. This summer is going by quickly so be sure to have fun. I have had a great time this summer playing with my son, my dog and going to lots of fun places with my family; like the beach and Hershey Park!
I am asking for the first day of school you choose one of the two projects explained below,so we can get to know each other a little better. Please bring your project with you on the first day and we will share them throughout the week.I will supply everything else you need for first grade! If you just can’t resist the urge to buy something at the store to get ready for school there is a list posted on the Uwchlan Hills website.
Parents: If you have access to email and could send me an email prior to school it would be very helpful. That way I can help conserve paper and send you any updates. My email address is se include your child’s name in the subject header. In your email please include:
- Your child’s bus number; especially the bus he/she will be taking home!
- Any allergies I may need to know about.
- If you could also share an academic and social goal that you have for your child it is very helpful. After a few weeks into first grade your child will be creating learning/first grades goals as well.
Lastly, you will greatly help your child’s first day/week of school run a little smoother if you…
*Pack their lunch.
*Let your child take the bus.
* Send in a healthy peanut free snack.
* Try to attend the open house with your child on August 22nd at 4pm.
See you soon,
Mrs. Denise Frosty
Project Choices
Choice #1: Create a Silhouette
Using aflashlight, create a silhouette on black paper (You will need a grown-ups help for this step) by having someone trace your shadow.Cut out the silhouette.Decorate your silhouette in ways that tell about you. Be creative; the sky’s the limit. You can draw, glue things or include pictures.Don’t forget to include your name somewhere on your silhouette!Choice #2: Design a License Plate
Here is a sample. When making yours, please use approximately a 9” by 12” piece of construction paper or poster board. Be as creative as you wish and choose 7 letters and numbers that will tell us all about you! Some ideas are letters or numbers that tell about the number of people in your family, favorite color, or initials!
Have fun! I can’t wait to meet you!
