Dear Challenge School Community:

It is with very mixed emotions that I am writing this letter. Through much heartfelt reflection, I decided to seek out the opportunity and have been appointed as Principal of Laredo Middle School. Besides moving away from my family to Denver with my four year old son to work at Challenge School, this has been one of the most difficult decisions I have made. I have had the honor to be a teacher for eleven years, assistant to the principal for two, and served as principal for over seven years. It has truly been a pleasure to work in this incredible community for almost two decades.

My hope is that in my years of service as principal, I have cultivated in each of the staff members and the community to carry on that legacy. A legacy isn’t about a person; it is about the culture of a school. I am so proud of the accomplishments of our students and staff since I have served as its leader, from being one of the top elementary schools in the Denver Metro area to the most recent accomplishment of being ranked one of the top five middle schools in the nation. I know that the students and staff of Challenge will continue to excel and receive well-deserved accolades.

I am pleased to announce that Linda MacCagnan has been appointed as Interim Principal. Linda has had several years of experience as an administrator in the Cherry Creek School District. She is currently serving as the Assistant Principal at Campus Middle School where she has been for the past seven years.

I will remain at Challenge School for the next several months to transition Linda from Campus to our school. Linda will be starting half days at Challenge School next week and will be sending out a letter introducing herself in the days to come. She will also be here during conferences so she may introduce herself to you in person.

As I stated earlier, these past twenty years have been a wonderful experience for me and I am pleased to know that Linda will continue to move Challenge School forward for the remainder of the school year. I want to thank you for your support over the years.

Thank you for all you have done for the staff of Challenge School and for me personally. I will truly cherish this part of my educational career.

Respectfully,

Edie Alvarez

Principal
