BAND CAMP!

Tuesday, September 25, 2018

Dear Band Parents,

I wanted to take a moment to congratulate all of you on a very successful year and thank everyone who has helped to ensure a fine music program. I also wanted to welcome our new incoming freshmen. I have heard that there are many talented 8th graders making the journey into the High School Band Program!

Band Camp is fast approaching and I wanted to make sure everyone has accurate information and dates so that we can have 100% attendance and a 100% program. Band Camp is required for High School Band. At camp we will be learning the basics of marching and the complete drill for the 2010 marching season. This drill/halftime show is performed at the MSBOA District VIII Marching Band Festival for a grade and rating and at our Friday home football games.

Our music boosters have been working very hard with concessions to help raise money for band camp. It was disappointing for me to hear that out of the 43 call Mrs. Leathead made looking for helpers with concessions that only 4 people were able to volunteer a few hours to help the music program. It was also disappointing to hear that some parents “hung-up” on her. Estimating 70 students attending means that the cost of band camp for sophomores, juniors, and seniors will be $250.00. Freshmen cost will be $275.00 which will pay for their new marching shoes. Payment will be due on Friday, May 14th with checks made payable to the “Napoleon Music Boosters”.

Band camp will be the week of August 2nd-7th(tentative) at MichiganStateUniversity. There will be information following on what to bring, travel times, rehearsals, and performance times.

Students will have music for the drill before the end of the school year, and I hope that parents will assist me in making sure music is learned and memorized before camp. We will have a few “read through” sessions before camp as well as a few freshman marching lessons. The Drum Majors will be contacting freshman to give rehearsal times and dates. I look forward to a great Band Camp and another successful year!

Educationally yours,
