March 25. 2014

Dear Advanced Placement Biology students,

I commend you once again on challenging yourself by taking A.P. Bio and working hard throughout the course. I hope that the vocabulary, concept maps, and mathematics do not disrupt your fascination with the subject of Biology that explains how and why living systems work together. We are now coming close to the exam day. By this time you have learned and mastered much more than you may be aware of. However, there are still many concepts to learn. There are 46 calendar days, much more than school days, left until the exam day on May 11,2014. I know that you are all capable of passing the exam if you dedicate your time to studying daily.Studying means reviewing your notes multiple times; explaining concepts out loud and practicing writing and solving problems.

Spring break will provide much needed time for rest. However, it is also a time for you to be responsible and use the time to learn on your own. Remember, after May 11, you will have a month with lighter amounts of work. Athletes and artists must practice and rehearse for hours on end to give amazing performances. Your studies should be treated just the same. AP Biology is a challenge and the test will provide an opportunity to earn college credit. Beyond that, it is your first taste of a college course. Developing good study habits now will benefit your future. Remember that anything worthwhile requires time, patience, and sacrifice. How great will it be to earn your college diploma, to work your dream job, buy your car of choice, choose where to live to travel, to eat at fancy restaurants, to give back to your family and community, to have a bright future with plenty of choices! Investing in your education today will help you accumulate great rewards for your future. Your grades are like coins or tickets at an arcade. (Quick Check: What type of literary device did I just use?) Instead of a prize that will bring you temporary satisfaction, you can trade them in for scholarships and college acceptances that will bring you a lifetime of rewards. Success does not happen over night.

Remind yourself daily of the bigger picture you are working toward and know that it is possible as long as you commit yourself to it.

Your homework is listed and AP Bio Bootcamp schedule is located on the backside of this sheet. I encourage you to set up a daily schedule to study.

Sincerely,

Ms. De La O
