Daughters of the Moon Hijas De La Luna 10-Minute Play Competition for Girls of Color

Daughters of the Moon
::: Hijas de la Luna :::
10-Minute Play Competition
for Girls of Color

Teatro Luna’s 1st Annual Daughters of the Moon/Hijas de la Luna 10-Minute Play Competition celebrates and promotes the richness of our ethnically diverse youth community through the medium of playwriting. This competition provides a creative outlet for girls of color, while promoting social issues that are timely and pertinent to their experience, while nurturing literacy and self-expression through playwriting.

This competition is open to all self-identified girls of color ages 12-18. Judges will consist of Teatro Luna staff, who are writers, performers, directors, educators, and experienced members of the arts community.

Competition Theme:

The theme for this year’s competition is Identity.

Thematic Prompts
How do you identify? What does it mean to be a person of color in Chicago? In America? What do people say about how you identify? When was a time that your identity caused a conflict? What does it mean to be considered “other” in America? In other parts of the globe? How does gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, and/or culture factor into identity? What aspects of identity are often left out or misrepresented?

Be creative, experimental, literal or abstract with how you explore this theme. It is your story. There is no right or wrong way to address this theme. The questions above are meant to spark your thinking on the theme, not provide a mold for or restrict your play.
