Dear Applicant

Thank you for your interest in this important post with Lifeline. The Area Manager: Scotland will play a critical role in the delivery of Lifeline’s existing services in Scotland and the future development of our work in this country. This letter gives some background on Lifeline and this role, and provides details of how to apply.

Lifeline Project

Established in 1971, Lifeline is a national charity supporting adults, young people, families and communities affected by drugs and alcohol. We provide a full range of services incorporating recovery and peer mentoring, harm minimisation, recovery-orientated drug and alcohol treatment, shared care and criminal justice, including work in 22 prisons. Our service footprint covers London, Oxfordshire, the Midlands, North West, North East, Yorkshire and Humberside, and Scotland.

We are committed to our mission of reducing harm, promoting recovery and challenging the inequalities linked to alcohol and drug misuse. To achieve this we combine high standards for performance, quality and value for money with local flexibility, innovation and the ability to work with service users, communities, providers and Commissioners to design and deliver services that make a difference.

Lifeline Scotland

Lifeline has had strong success in developing new delivery models and in winning business opportunities to bring innovative ways of working to new localities.

We have designed Edinburgh and Midlothian a radical new recovery and reducing re-offending service for work across community, court and prison, in response to a strong local desire for improvements in effectiveness and integration and reductions in crime and drug use.

This new Edinburgh and Midlothian Offender Recovery Service went live on 1st April 2014 and is contracted for three years in the first instance.

The service brings recovery and desistance support to offenders at all points of the criminal justice systems and in all stages of change. Structured work in HMP Edinburgh strengthens individual’s recovery capital, with a safety net of high intensity community support on liberation and at points of change or crisis to support resettlement and reintegration. The model is underpinned by active case coordination, assertive engagement and re-engagement and early access to peer support and mutual aid.

Area Manager: Scotland

Our first priority is to ensure that this new service is delivered to the high standards expected by Lifeline, our service users, our Commissioners and the people of Edinburgh and Midlothian.

Working within Lifeline’s well-established Prison Directorate, the Area Manager: Scotland will be responsible for the success of this new service and will then play a lead role in the development of Lifeline’s future work in Scotland.
