Faith to Obey!

At one time or another most of us have come across a verse of Scripture that when first read appears to be a little difficult in its understanding. Some examples would be the words of Exodus 32:27 following Moses’ descent down the mountain after receiving the Ten Commandments from the Lord. Speaking to the children of Israel Moses said, “Thus says the Lord your God of Israel. Let every man put his sword on his side, and go in and out from entrance to entrance throughout the camp, and let every man kill his brother, every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.”However, wasn’t the sixth commandment the Lord gave that “You shall not murder?”Or how about Proverbs 26:4 that reads, “Answer not a fool according to his folly,”when verse 5 reads, “Answer a fool according to his folly.”A New Testament verse we could point to is Galatians 6:2. “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ,”yet verse 5 reads, “For each one shall bear his own load (burden).”

Since we were created with minds to think and reason, we naturally think we should be able to live our lives with clarity of all things, however, God doesn’t want us to live thinking we’re in control of all things. We are meant to live by faith even when things don’t always make sense to us. And if we follow Him faithfully---even when things don’t seem to make sense to us, we will always be led by the hand of the Lord in His right and perfect way. We don’t have to know all things!

Let me give an example of how a Saturday morning goes in the Daly household. Every Saturday morning, I fill up my vitamin dispenser with seven or eight vitamin’s that Jeannie has suggested I should take. One vitamin is for healthy eyes, another for healthy bones, while others are for who knows what! I once asked the doctor if any of these were helping in any way and his response was; “Well! They’re certainly not hurting you!” So I continue to fill the vitamin slots each week with a new supply of pink, yellow, cranberry, yellow, and chocolate color vitamins for the upcoming week. I’ll admit I don’t understand what all the ingredients in those little and big pills are; however, I just keep taking them. When our computer technician recently worked on the ministry’s computers, I didn’t have a clue about what he was doing, but whatever it was, it worked. In the physical world we let others who understand more than we do, do what they know is best at our time of need, and we are to do the same in our spiritual lives as well.

It was Martin Luther King Jr. who said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” You and I may not see where the path we’re on is totally leading us, especially with all its twists and turns, but we are to be reminded that we don’t have to, nor are we expected to. While for you, you may not understand all of the ways God may be leading you this moment, it’s important to know you don’t need to. Your job! My job! Your part! My part! Is to have ‘Faith to Obey’ and to trust the Lord at all times.

It’s more often than not that the very things we can’t and don’t understand are the very things that ultimately give us the highest and best direction which can ever be given us in our lives.

‘Faith to Obey’ is the key!
