Cynthia Davis is vice president of Clinical Transformation at BayCare, a community-based health care system in the TampaBay area with more than 17,400 employees, nine leading not-for-profit hospitals and 11 ambulatory centers. Davis has more than 20 years of experience in health care administration in academic medical centers and community-based health systems.

She currently oversees the strategic planning and implementation and ongoing support of BayCare’s electronic medical record (EMR) initiative, known as BEACON. The multi-phase, 7 year project willcreate a secure computerized environment where physicians and clinical staff will have seamless, real-time access to all aspects of patient information.When completed, BEACON will transform BayCare’s traditional paper-based health records into digital records that will improve access to clinical information resulting in more timely clinical decision-making and higher-quality and efficient care.

Davis previously was the vice president of Information Technology/CIO at Dekalb Regional Healthcare System, a three-hospital health system in Georgia. There, she led the development of technology and processes for the first planned digital hospital inGeorgia. The hospital included an EMR and computerized physician order entry (CPOE) with high rates of physician and clinician adoption and satisfaction, resulting in streamlined patient care and improved clinical outcomes.

Davis began her career as a nurse. Her broad experience includes the development and management of financial and clinical information systems in the health care industry. Additionally, Davis facilitated collaborative partnership initiatives involving informatics research between community health systems and both Georgia Tech and Indiana universities.Davis received her master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan and her bachelor’s degree of nursing from the University of New Mexico. She also is a fellow with the AmericanCollege of Healthcare Executives.
