Cut to the Chase: References for Mental Measurements Yearbook
This is a straight-to-the-point guide for how to create APA-style references fortest reviews in the database named Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print. If you need to reference just a Test Entry (but not the review) from the MMY, or a review from the print version of the MMY, or desire a fully detailed guide on this subject, see
A properly formatted reference to a test review in the MMY database looks like this:
Engelhard, G. (2003). Review of TheMaroondah Assessment Profile for Problem Gambling. In B.S. Plake, J.C. Impara, & R.A. Spies (Eds.), The fifteenth mental measurements yearbook. Lincoln, NE: Buros Institute of MentalMeasurements. Retrieved from MentalMeasurements Yearbook with Tests in Print database.
Note:The reference begins with the test reviewer’s name (not with the author of the test nor with the editors of the Mental Measurements Yearbook). Depending on the test being reviewed, the edition number of the yearbook (as well as its editors) will change.
Note:In APA references, titles of information sources (books, articles, web sites, etc.) are written in sentence case (with most words being lower case), but the title of the test being reviewed is a proper noun. That means that most of the words in the test name will be capitalized (including the second half of hyphenated words), and the only words you will leave lower case are articles (a, an, the), coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so), and prepositions of fewer than four letters (as, at, by, but, for, in, of, off, on, per, to, up, via).
For each yearbook you are likely to encounter (19th, 18th, 17th, etc.), a copy-and-paste example is provided below. The examples are written in Times New Roman, size 12, double line spaced, with a hanging indent, so all you should need to do is to copy/paste and then swap the reviewers name and the name of the test, deleting the gray highlighting (shown in this guide to point out which items to swap) and deleting the yellow or blue highlighting (shown here to help you find the yearbook number you need).
