A chief financial officer (CFO) is basically an expert in the field of the finance. He or she is responsible for all analyzing and maintaining the financial aspects of a company. The CFO shows his or her expertise in the managing the financial duties, leading and coordinating in the various administrative, business planning, accounting and budgeting efforts of an organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities of a CFO which are expected to be fulfilled:

  • A CFO has the prime responsibility to analyze, coordinate and evaluate the financial programmers of company.
  • It will be also needed to analyze the areas like budgeting, tax planning, etc

  • He or she has to prepare the strategies and implement finance, accounting, billing, and auditing methods.
  • He or she has the responsibility to maintain the internal control safeguards.
  • It is needed to coordination with the managers for planning initiatives through financial analyses, reports and recommendations.
  • He or she has to make sure that records systems are maintained keeping with auditing standards.
  • The CFO has to evaluate the cost controls and other expenses to ensure the profitability for identifying the weal areas.

  • The person desiring to be a CFO must have the past experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • The person needs to have exceptional communication skills with interpersonal skills.
  • He or she should be able to analyze financial data to make financial reports and forecasts.
  • The person must have the required knowledge about finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control tactics.
  • The person should have the required awareness of state financial regulations and procedures.

Education and Qualifications

  • The basic degree for the position is a Masters degree in finance or accounting for the senior position.
  • The person also needs to have the required past working experience in senior-level finance or accounting position in a company.
