Organisation, Ethos and Climate /
  1. We comply and actively engage with statutory requirements and codes of practice such as :the Schools (Health Promotion and Nutrition) (Scotland) Act 2007,Standards in Schools Act, Additional Support for Learning Act, Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act, Race Relations Amendment Act, Disability Discrimination Act, Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act and Scottish Social Services Council Code of Practice.
  2. Staff, learners, parents and other partners are familiar with statutory requirements and codes of practice and are involved in fulfilling statutory duties.
  3. We make sensitive use of information concerning individuals
  4. We build healthy living and health promotion into our centre’s culture which is one of trust, respect and confidence.
  5. Children, staff, special interest groups, parent councils and other partners are involved in regular health and wellbeing reviews of the whole centre community.

Curriculum, Teaching and Learning /
  1. Children have opportunities to learn and practice health-related skills, e.g. communication, decision making, assertiveness, dealing with emotions, risk assessment, expressing feelings, investigation and problem solving.
  2. Children with additional learning needs are identified in conjunction with relevant support services and supported appropriately.
  3. Children and staff have opportunities to explore their own beliefs and attitudes around health issues.
  4. Staffs carefully consult parents/carers when addressing sensitive content areas in health.
  5. Staff actively engage parents from all communities in involvement in health and well-being discussions.

  1. Our accommodation, indoor and outdoor, provides a safe, pleasant and stimulating environment for active learning through play.
  2. There are regularly updated displays and presentations of health and wellbeing work in and around the centre and these reflect the experiences of all staff and children and of the wider world.
  3. Children and staff have access to free drinking water and its consumption is actively promoted.
  4. We implement relevant health and safety legislation and are vigilant in ensuring the security and safety of our children, staff and visitors.

  1. Our commitment to joint planning with associated centres, partner organisations and services is evident in our planning to ensure that children are safe, healthy and well cared for and feel included and valued as equal members of the centre commnunity.
  2. Our arrangements with specialist services regarding communication, assessments, planning, review, recording and reporting are clear and work well.
  3. Partnership working reinforces work across transitions and cluster planning across sectors.
