Current opportunities with the WSU Community Engagement Institute:

Work Study Student Assistant with the IMPACT Center

Update electronic documents such as staff list, student matrix, master calendar, volunteer timesheets and weekly reports. Provide office support to team by making copies, developing and organizing materials. Update online database of support group information.

Skills: excellent oral and written communication, organizational skills, time management, ability to work independently and as a team member, dependable, Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Publisher) and office equipment (copier, printers, etc).

  • 15-20 hours a week, paid, must qualify for Work-Study

Volunteer Prevention Initiatives Intern with the Center for Behavioral Health Initiatives (unpaid)

Identify and collect new prevention resources for people in Kansas communities. Gather hard copies and search online prevention materials. Create online “toolkits”, document materials used, submit recommended blog and newsworthy posts for the website and social media.

Skills: excellent oral and written communication, organizational skills, time management, ability to work independently and as a team member, dependable, Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Publisher) and office equipment (copier, printers, etc).

  • 10 hours a week, unpaid, may qualify for credit through career development office

Ombudsman Volunteer position

Ombudsman volunteers receive free training around soft skills, Medicaid programs, eligibility, and general troubleshooting. Volunteers will be mentored for a short period while they gain phone experience speaking with Medicaid consumers regarding their experiences with Medicaid services. Thereafter, volunteers will receive direct phone experience with KanCare consumers, as well as scheduled in person experience if they choose to helping members fill out applications to gain access to Medicaid. Customer service and telephone skills will be developed, as well as direct service opportunities with consumers.

VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America)

VISTA members build the capacity and sustainability of the project, organization and community, with a focus on reducing and alleviating poverty.VISTA members receive a modest monthly living allowance and after a year of service have a choice of an end-of-year cash stipend valued at $1,500 or the Segal Education award valued at $5,775 to be used for loan payments or tuition costs.
