Current Events:Welcome back from Spring Break. Hopefully, we are all recovered and ready to complete the year. The children looked really cute for their spring pictures on Tuesday. Didn’t they do a wonderful job with their “Lemonade” performance on Thursday afternoon and evening! Come out tonight for our 31 Bingo fund raiser at 6:30 in the cafeteria.

Language Arts:The children watched a Jan Brett video of how to draw a chick and are working on a factual or fiction story to go along with the picture.Getting the children to use upper case letters to start their sentences and putting in end marks instead of using the word, “and” is a skill that we are trying to get solid in doing in our writing.

Math:Finding the value of a collection of pennies, nickels, and dimes have been the skills targeted. Playing money games, making and counting a collection of coins, and determining the value of solving different ways to find a given amount are skills that we have been practicing this week. Some children are being challenged to count change that includes the quarter value, too. We will have our test on money on Tuesday and then move onto fractions of the whole and of sets with ½, 1/3, & ¼.

Science:This week we have been busy getting our aquatic habitats set up and inhabited by guppies and snails. Once we got the gravel and water in the tanks, the children compared 2 water plants—myriophyllum and cabomba, which were added to the tanks. Then, the children wrote in their organism journal about each plant. Next week, we’ll add the guppies and snails to our aquatic habitats.

Spring Reminders:

Halter tops, spaghetti straps, and muscle shirts are not allowed to be worn to school.

Tennis shoes are needed for daily play. There’s less injury to feet, toes, and ankles if the children wear their tennis shoes for daily school activities.

Have your child to keep a light sweater/sweatshirt in his/her book bag because temperature inside the school building does vary—sometimes greatly. Thus, your child can add a layer if the air conditioning is too cold once it gets started.

Please stop by and look at the many items that have been found at school. These items are in the lost and found in the cafeteria. You may not have missed the item yet, but seeing it may jog your memory that it’s been missing.
