Cultural Advocacy Community Liaison Worker

NJC 22-25

3 days per week.

Responsible to:ExecutiveDirector

Reporting to: Executive Director

JOB PURPOSE

To work with the Cultural Advocacy Team to develop and deliver a community outreach programme to BME communities.

To work closely with VAC’s BME and capacity building services to build the capacity of BME host organisations to continue to provide support on mental health issue to communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with the Cultural Advocacy Project Manager and the Community Development Worker to:

  • Develop and carry out an active outreach programme to BME communities.
  • To engage BME community groups and individuals in the project as hosts and providers of services.
  • To act as a two way channel of information from and to communities , the Cultural Advocacy Team, service providers and VAC’s BME and capacity building services
  • To co-facilitate peer support groups for people working and volunteering with BME communities.

Key Tasks

Working with the Cultural Advocacy Project Manager and the Community Development Worker to:

  • Work with communities and to engage and work with Mental Health Champions and community members to identify key issues to address around mental health
  • To work with communities to co-produce, organise and deliver community workshops to raise awareness.
  • To work with host organisations to recruit, train and develop dedicated mental health volunteers.
  • To work with communities to facilitate sessions between BME communities and statutory providers to enable better access to existing services.
  • To undertake training in developing and running peer support groups and to maintain and use these practice skills.
  • To co-facilitate at least one peer support group.
  • To work with communitiesto initiate and support a two-way dialogue and link between BME communities, service providers, the Cultural Advocacy Service and VAC.
  • To oversee the preparation of accurate and timely reporting information both for internal and external purposes

General Responsibilities

  • To attend internal and external meetings as required by the line manager.
  • To attend supervision sessions and appraisals and be accountable for aspects of your work to the line manager.
  • To complete and maintain all record for the purposes of monitoring and evaluation.
  • To attend training that is consistent with quality performance.
  • To work alongside partner staff as an integrated team.
  • To contribute to VAC’s role as a Council for Voluntary Service by providing development support to host partners.
  • To attend occasional evening and weekend activities as required by the line manager.
  • To treat with confidentiality any personal, private or sensitive information about individual organisations and or users staff etc.
  • To contribute to VAC’s role as Camden’s Council for Voluntary Service by developing and maintaining a general awarenessof communities and civil society organisations in the Borough of Camden.
  • To comply with and promote VAC’s Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety Policies.
  • To be flexible within the broad remit of the post and carrying out general duties as set down in the office manual and agreed with the line manager.
  • To take direction on projects and priorities from the line manager.

The responsibilities of the post may be changed, subject to review, over a period.
