Culminating Project for Biography Unit

Dear Parents,

In order to complete our biography unit, the students will complete an independent research project on different figures in history. The students will be assigned a biography book in class this week. They will complete research, take notes and create comprehension questions on their given person in history. The students will use this information to create a biography trifold in class. A large majority of this project will be done in class when we return from break. However, the students are welcome to start researching at home and bring in print outs for their in class work.

However, we are asking for the students to complete a small portion of this project at home to bring into school. The students will use the research and/or trifold completed in class to create a biography poster (see picture example below). The students should use the important facts about the person’s life, accomplishments, what made them an important figure head in history, etc. to create a biography poster. At least 75% of the poster should be decorated based on the figure’s life, time period, and body. (ex: Derek Jeter wearing a Yankee jersey with a baseball field in background)The students should leave a cut out in the middle of the poster to allow their face to fit as they present as their famous person (see picture to the left). Presentations are given in first person as if the famous figure is speaking. The students should also leave a cut out for arms to hold presentation index card.

The students may dress up their heads to represent their person IF THEY CHOOSE, however, dressing up is not mandatory. For example, Micheal Jordan might wear a sweat band, Amelia Earhart may wear goggles on her head, Micheal Phelps might wear a swimming cap, Albert Einstein might stick up his hair. Again, this is not mandatory.

If you have any questions concerning this or any other project, please do not hesitate to contact me. This biography poster will be due Wednesday, March 15th. The poster, the students presentations, and the in class research and trifold will be taken for ELA grades. We are so excited about this project and are looking forward to seeing the creative posters the students’ create! 

Thank you for your continued support,
