CUB SCOUT LINK BADGE
Joey Scouts may commence the Cub Scout pre-investiture requirements two months prior to their transfer to the Cub Scout Section. To earn the Link Badge the Joey Scout must work with the Cub Scout Leader, attending the Cub Scout meetings over six weeks. There are 7 things the Joey Scout will need to do to earn the Cub Scout Link Badge before progressing to Cub Scouts.
1. Attend four Cub Scout meetings.
2. During talks with the Cub Scout Leader:
(a) show a knowledge, understanding and acceptance of the Cub Scout Promise and Law;
(b) Know and understand the salute, demonstrate the Scout sign and left handshake;
(c) Discuss the going-up and investiture ceremonies.
3. Discuss being a Cub Scout with future Sixer.
4. Know the names of the Leaders in the Cub Scout section.
5. Discuss the visits with the Joey Scout Leader and the Joey Scout mob.
6. Hear how Scouting and Cub Scouting began and the first Jungle Story.
7. Understand the meaning of ‘Good Turns’ and how important it is that Cub Scouts do a good turn.
You can obtain a Cub Scout Link Badge Card from Snowgum. The Link Badge (yellow in colour) may be awarded at the Going-up Ceremony, which is a Cub Scout Ceremony. The presentation should in normal circumstances by made by the Group Leader or, in his/her absence, by the Cub Scout Leader.
If the Joey Scout does not complete Link work, they do not receive the Link Badge. All Link work must be completed prior to the advancement of the Joey Scout.
The Joey Scout who has completed the Link badge is to be invested immediately on going-up to Cub Scouts. The going-up process differs from other sections in that the Link Badge is awarded on the night the Joey Scout is invested into Cub Scouts. The Cub Scout Link Badge is worn on the Cub Scout uniform.
Link work may commence any time after the Joey Scout is 7 years of age. The Joey Scout must be in Cub Scouts by his/her 8th birthday. Joey Scouts are able to attend Cub Scout camps during the time they are working towards their Link Badge.
