CTD Café TweetChat Support Document

One of the ways you may interact with experts during CTD cafe events is with Twitter, a free social media platform that allows you to participate in a conversation known as a TweetChat.

What is a TweetChat?

A TweetChat is a public conversation with two or more people via twitter that takes place during set times on a certain topic. TweetChats offer you an opportunity to ask questions and engage with experts and others interested in this topic while online.

How do I Join a TweetChat?

Step 1: Create a Twitter account

Visit create a Twitter account with a username. Your username is the name that others will see associated with your comments during the TweetChat. This username can reflect your real name or something else. Once you have created your Twitter account and username, you will be ready to participate in the TweetChat conversation.

Step 2: At the time of the event, return to the CTD café event page to participate in the TweetChat

The event time will be noted on the event page in the Café. You will see the TweetChat comments appear on this event page as well. You’ll notice that all comments include #CTDtechtalk. This is the conversation hashtag, which is required to include your comments in the TweetChat conversation. If you’re participating in the CTD caféTweetChat, this conversation hashtag will automatically be entered into the message you write. You can also attend outside of the CTD website via Twitter. Remember to include the conversation hashtag in your tweet or message so that it shows up in the conversation.

Tips for Participation

Talk to other participants – don’t forget the hashtag

To respond directly to another participant’s comment, press the reply buttonunder their comment. Add the conversation hashtag to the end of your comment to include the comment in the TweetChat conversation.

Retweet

Retweeting a comment is a way of showing that you like a comment and wish to share it with others. Retweeting also shares this comment with any followers you have outside of the TweetChat conversation. Press the retweet buttonunderneath the comment you would like to share.

Tag your topics

To share your ideas with others outside of the TweetChat, add hashtag keywords related to the topic you’re discussing. This will allow others to find your tweet while searching for tweets about that topic. Example: Parent involvement is crucial when implementing assistive technology! #Parents #AT #Assistivetechnology

Be brief and to the point

You may only enter 140 characters per comment, so phrase your comments carefully. If your thoughts require more than 140 characters, simply end your first comment with “more” to let others know you have more to say and an additional comment will be coming. When sharing websites, go to tinyurl.com to shorten your web address, then copy and paste the shortened address into your comment.
