Essential Question: / Social Studies Goals:
I Can Statements: I can identify our weather. I can explain how my parents meet my basic needs and wants.
Learning Targets:
·  Demonstrate how you know the difference between hot and cold weather
·  Compare the difference between food bought from market vs. grocery story.
·  Identify different styles of clothing here vs. China.
·  Recognize the difference clothing that you would wear in hot and cold weather.

Tasks For Lesson

Engage—What tasks will “hook” students and uncover what they know and think about the concept? / Discuss the types of weather typical in our state. Have students draw a sectioned picture of winter, spring, summer, & fall seasons typical of NC
Explore/Explain—What tasks will encourage students to observe, question, and investigate the concepts and explain concepts in their own words? / Research the coldest & hottest temperatures ever recorded, greatest snowfall/flood ever recorded
Elaborate—What experimental inquiry, investigative projects, problem solving, and decision-making tasks will help students apply their new labels, definitions, explanations, and skills? / View images of NC state bird, mammal, tree & flower. Illustrate a picture of each. Color appropriately. Discuss if any or all of these can be observed in our area.
Evaluate—What formative assessments will ensure that learning is occurring? / Able to identify N.C. symbols out of a group of three different symbols (flag, bird, tree, flower etc.).
