14. General Summary of Function/Purpose of Position
Direct and instruct corrections officers in the performance of their duties ensuring they are alert and responsible to any situation and relaying information to them as well as to supervisory staff. Perform duties as assigned by the shift lieutenant and captain..

Duty 1

General Summary of Duty 1 % of Time 70
Assist shift command staff in daily operations and assumes command of Control Center in absence of Shift Commander..
Individual tasks related to the duty.
·  Make written records of staff discipline and corrective actions taken.
·  Assist with staff roll calls, clear major counts, ensures transfers and details are handled according to policies and procedures.
·  Funnel all necessary information to shift commander and deal with whatever problems arise within the scope of his/her authority.
·  Make shift schedules at the direction of shift command.
·  Schedule hearing dates.
·  Review major misconducts with prisoners.
·  Assures log books are maintained and incidents are properly documented.
·  Investigate and respond to prisoner grievances.

Duty 2

General Summary of Duty 2 % of Time 20
Ensure all security systems and the security of perimeter is maintained..
Individual tasks related to the duty.
·  Ensures each officer is alert, responsive and fit for duty.
·  Ensure each officer is at appropriate station and performing duties properly.
·  Examine the need for further training and assist in scheduling of training.
·  Make post inspections as directed.
·  Make security checks at outside hospitals.
·  Completes monthly security monitoring exercises.
·  Check caustics weekly

Duty 3

General Summary of Duty 3 % of Time 10
Assume on-site control of responses and station officers as needed to provide maximum coverage for the situation.
Individual tasks related to the duty.
·  Instruct officers in the proper steps to be taken for each security measure that may arise and ensure prisoner movement is effectively monitored.
·  Ensure each response is made in a timely fashion.
·  Conduct squad training/drills emphasizing weapons safety and awareness and be prepared to assume command of a platoon if necessary.
·  Be knowledgeable in arsenal operations and ability to coordinate prisoner transportation.

Notify supervisor of security problems. Call for overtime if staff shortages. Monitor performance of Correctional Officers.
Ensure That staff are fit for duty and training requirements have been fulfilled.

23. What are the essential duties of this position?
Oversee the work of Corrections Officers in maintaining a safe and secure environment of the Department of Corrections inmate population. First line supervision in the Control Center who oversees the daily operation of the Control Center and Administration Building.

Duties have not changed.

Care, custody and control of a multi-level security prison.
26. In your opinion, what are the minimum education and experience qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of this position.
EDUCATION:
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and fifteen semester (23 term) college credit hours in one or a combination of the following areas: correctional administration, criminal justice, criminology, psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, educational psychology, family relations, pastoral counseling or law.
EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience as a Corrections Officer, Resident Unit Officer, Corrections medical aide or Special Alternative Incarceration Officer.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, and administrative practices of the Department of Corrections. Must be able to assume command of the Control Center in the event of an emergency. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written directions. Ability to supervise and assist corrections officers in their duties. . Communication skills (verbal and written), diplomacy skills.
