Visual Overview of the Marratech Interface

Part One: Introductions & Project Team Presentation

  1. Hook up any peripherals (webcam, headphones, microphone, etc.)
  2. Open Marratech
  3. Type the following in the address bar of the Marratech window, located at the top of your screen, just as in an internet browser (see top left of image above):
  4. Click on the link to room T217
  5. Please make sure to activate your camera (click on the video camera icon shown in the lower right of the image above , linked by an arrow to the explanation: “These are controls …”)
  6. Please mute your microphone for the opening remarks, except when you are introducing yourself. You can mute your microphone by making sure that the microphone icon light in the lower right corner of the Marratech screen (see image above) is not lit up – click on it to turn it off.
  7. Click on the Whiteboard Tab, on the bottom left of your Marratech window. See the lower left of the image at the beginning of this document for its exact location. This will enable you to see any PowerPoint slides that accompany the project presentation.

Part Two: Small Group Discussions

  • Click on the World Tab in the bottom left of your Marratech window. It is located next to the Whiteboard tab that you used when you entered T217. See the lower left of the image at the beginning of this document.
  • Now, click on the small house (home) icon in the upper left of your Marratech screen, directly above the address bar.
  • Type the following into the Marratech address bar: http://switchboard.stanford.edu.
  • Choose the appropriate room (Pedagogy, Intercultural Communication, Technology, or Rhetoric) and enter by clicking on the link.
  • Note: if prompted whether you want to “leave” your original room or start a “new” Marratech session, please be sure to choose leave to avoid technical difficulties.
  • Make sure to activate your camera and microphone when you enter your small group room.
  • If you are using a speakerbox, please have headphones on hand in case there is an echo problem; using headphones will minimize echo and audio feedback.

Part Three: Group Presentations, Feedback, and Final Reflection

  • Click on the World Tab in the bottom left of your Marratech window. It is located next to the Whiteboard tab. See the lower left of the image at the beginning of this document.
  • Now, click on the small house (home) icon in the upper left of your Marratech screen, directly above the address bar.
  • Type into the Marratech address bar
  • Click on the link for T217 to re-enter that room.
  • If prompted whether you want to “leave” your original room or start a “new” Marratech session, please be sure to choose leave to avoid technical difficulties.
  • If prompted to save your small group whiteboard, do so, saving it to a place where you can easily find it for future reference. It will be saved as a .mwb file that is viewable through the Marratech interface. Alternately, you can also use the “export” function under the file menu to export your whiteboard image as a .jpg or .gif file that you can view even without Marratech.
  • Make sure to activate your camera and microphone when you enter T217.
