CRITERIA FOR ENTRY

Please read carefully each category purpose and criteria. It would be useful for the judges to have images for visual references along with written evidence. This will enhance each candidate’s entry.

Images can be submitted as hard copies, on a CD or memory stick providing you send one to accompany every hard copy entry.

Images will need to be JPG or PDF files with a minimum DPI of 300.

Junior Hairdresser of the Year: (stylists with 2-4 years salon experience)

Purpose: To recognise a salon junior who excels through hard work, and passion with 2–4 years salon experience. The judges will be looking for a star of the future.

Criteria: The judges will examine salon performance, innovativeness and the individual’s testimonials to determine the quality of the entrants for our shortlist.

Colour Technician of the Year: (minimum 2 years salon experience)

Purpose: To recognise outstanding performance by a colour technician.

Criteria: Winning characteristics could be: Creativity well above average, with a flair for colour both innovative and corrective. In a sentence, the judges are looking for someone special for all to admire and from which all can learn, about the technique of colouring.

Gents’ Hairdresser/Barber of the Year: (minimum 2 years experience)

Purpose: To recognise true vision, ambition, and the willingness to succeed in the world of male grooming.

Criteria: Entrants should be able to show they have found their niche within this market, or provide a service unique to themselves, and their male clients.

Hairdresser of the Year: (minimum 2 years experience)

Purpose: To recognise an imaginative and creative stylist of female heads of hair. Whose individual contribution to the success of a business has been outstanding through their attention to their female clients.

Criteria: The judges will look for evidence of creativity and professionalism directly attributable to the entrant plus testimonials from within and/or the industry and clients...

Hair Styling Specialist of the Year:

Open to any hairdresser who demonstrates a high level in the art of hairdressing. To include bridal/special occasion, hair up, vintage and extension work

Purpose: To recognise an entrant who excels at an up-do, or other example of dressing hair for those clients with a special occasion to attend.

Criteria: Entrants will be able to show a clear mission - either in a one-off venture or in an ongoing commitment to specialist hair. Judges will be particularly interested in client images and testimonials.

Hair Salon of the Year: (trading more than 18 months)

Purpose: To recognise businesses which can demonstrate the importance of continued client growth, retention and innovation to the success of the business?

Criteria: Judges will seek evidence that the business has achieved significant client satisfaction, customer service and meets with the purpose in this category. Nominees are invited to show the impact they have on clients, staff, training and/or future plans.

Beauty Therapist of the Year: (beauticians/waxing/facials/tanning etc)

Purpose: To recognise an outstanding performance by an individual who goes over and above normal standards within the field of beauty.

Criteria: The judges will be looking for evidence and/or testimonials that confirm the entrants' ability in a hands on capacity, whilst also demonstrating an excellent knowledge of anatomy, products and advances with treatments to keep up with latest trends.

Nail Technician of the Year: (manicures/pedicures/gel/acrylic etc)

Purpose: To recognise outstanding nail technicians with solid training and product knowledge.

Criteria: The judges will be looking for evidence of attention to detail, creativity and the ability to demonstrate their craft effectively.

Cosmetic Therapist of the Year: (advanced treatments)

Purpose: To recognise any therapist who goes that extra mile while providing advanced client treatments.

Criteria: The judges will be looking for a level of skill and advanced training and knowledge within the field of advanced non-surgical cosmetic procedures, Client biography through a course of treatment would be a good indicator for the judges.

Beauty Salon of the Year: (trading more than 18 months)

Purpose: To recognise businesses which can demonstrate the importance of continued client growth, retention and innovation to the success of the business.

Criteria: Judges will seek evidence that the business has achieved significant client satisfaction, customer service and meets with the purpose in this category. Nominees are invited to show the impact they have on clients, staff, training and/or future plans.

Training Centre of Excellence Award: (hair or beauty, open to colleges/salons/individuals)

Purpose: To reward and recognise those who train the future stars within the industry.

Criteria: An establishment or individual which can demonstrate effective delivery of their courses and training with a focus on ensuring their students always achieve and realise their potential.

Apprentice of the Year: (open to any apprentice/trainee with less than two years experience)

Purpose: To recognise an apprentice who has gone that extra mile and exceeded the expectations of their trainer or mentor.

Criteria: The judges will be looking for evidence of an apprentice who has excelled in their training and shows great promise for the future.

Lifetime Achievement:

The award winner is chosen by the judges, though any suggestions will be considered from nominations for this category.

RULES AND CONDITIONS

1. The awards are open to individuals, partnerships, organisations and businesses based in or having a significant presence (mobile services) in the circulation area of The News.

2. Entry is by authorised entry form only. The form itself provides for identifying information only. Entrants are required to submit whatever statements, testimonials and records they wish for the relevant category. The judges reserve the right to seek more information or clarification and may request a visit.

3. Contenders may enter themselves or be nominated by another.

4. No responsibility will be accepted by the competition organisers for any material sent or any entry lost or delayed in the post. Entries cannot be returned.

5. Entries will be judged by a panel appointed by The News and to include representatives of the main sponsor and of category sponsor and from the hair and beauty industry.

6. The winning entries will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held on Saturday July 4 2015 at the Guildhall Portsmouth.

7. A condition of entry is that entrants co-operate with the media and in particular with The News for the publication of a story about their business (whether before or after the announcement of the winners) and also with any other media coverage that may be given to their business.

8. The organisers will, within the scope of these rules, treat all entries as given in confidence but can accept no responsibility for any failure of confidentiality. Entrants should take appropriate steps, prior to entering the competition, to protect those aspects of their entry that may be patentable or registrable as designs.

9. The main sponsor is not eligible to enter any category. Category sponsors may not enter the category they have supported.

10. Individuals and organisations may enter more than one relevant category. Each entry should be on a separate entry form.

11. Five hard copy entries should be submitted no later than Friday May 8 2015. Entries received after that date will not be considered.

12. There can be no appeal against the decision of the panel of judges. Their decisions must be accepted as final in respect of all matters concerning this competition.
