Job Summary / SCILL is a charity which supports disabled people and their families living and working in Sutton.
Sherwoods’ forms part of the SCILL ‘social enterprise’ services; these include three cafes, Payroll and Managed Accounts.
The café is open daily to the public, the main objective is to support disabled people and bring an income into SCILL.
Sherwoods’ operates a daily sandwich round which requires food delivery to a variety of locations in Sutton within a given timescale using the SCILL van. Sherwoods’ also offers a Function Catering service including delivery; this also requires using the SCILL van.
Until 2013 Sherwoods operated as a training café for disabled students; this element will be re-introduced in the near future and you will play a role in their training and learning. You will need to feel confident working with people with learning disabilities.
The role will may include evening and weekend working.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility whatever their position in the organisation. If you see something that concerns you please report it to your line manager or report it directly to LBS First Contact 020 8770-6080; if it is a serious incident dial 999.
Support the Catering Supervisor in the daily operation of the café(s); this will include preparation and production of food and drink, stock rotation, food ordering and stock take, cleaning and any other duty required.
Carry out all duties in line with SCILL’s policy and procedure plus any policy and procedure linked to your place of work (if it is not SCILL). Ensure compliance with food hygiene, and health and safety regulations at all times.
Undertake daily, weekly and monthly checks, and ensure that these are recorded in line with current Health and Safety and Food Hygiene standards.
Undertake daily food production as directed by the Café Supervisor. (This will be required in their absence). Control costs and food waste.
Within the required daily timescales undertake a food round to a number of sites across the London Borough of Sutton; this will require selling items, taking cash payments and recording all sales.
Record and manage all return items from the sandwich rounds following food hygiene standards; record cash taken and give to the finance office.
Ensure daily ordering is done to make sure that stock is available for the following day(s) within the café, for the sandwich rounds and for any function catering.
As part of the team, prepare and deliver external catering orders. Check external catering orders, answer enquiries regarding external bookings, log all bookings and order sufficient food to ensure that all external orders are met.
Deliver training to Learning Disabled students ensuring a good standard of learning and making sure that Safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
Working as part of the team, ensure that casual staff, volunteers and students are following food hygiene guidelines, health and safety and policy and procedure correctly.
Offer a good quality Counter Sale service to external customers, maintaining a positive rapport at all times. (This may also include delivering lunches and refreshments internally to meeting rooms and offices on site).

Escalate any issues to the Café Supervisor (or the Cafes and Catering Manager in their absence) so that issues can be dealt with promptly
Participate in Sherwoods Meetings, SCILL Meetings and one to one supervisions.
Undertake any other duties as required.
