The JUNE 2017 MINUTES were approved.

Dawn Howe ~ Rotary Youth Exchange - Program

·  2 female Foreign exchange students in CB Now

·  Opportunities for families to host; could use one more family starting in

January 2018 : 3- 3.5 month commitment

·  Junior year is a great year for exchange, apply sophomore year.

Vice President Reports

Wendy Bales - Elementary

·  Now have Room Parents for all Elementary Classes

·  Collecting teachers requests (leaves) for Giving Tree. Please check it out in hallway in a couple of weeks.

·  Reminder: When teachers buy supplies for their own classrooms, if they are PTA members they can be reimbursed up to $100

·  CBCS now has a Full time STEM teacher for elementary. Kelie Morran

Additional Elementary report from Suzanne Hadley:

·  Elementary Principal wants a computer cart for every grade eventually. They purchased two full carts of Chromebooks (50) with PTA funds over the summer. Currently K& 1st share an I-pad cart and it’s almost time to replace this original batch of I-pads. Will also need to replace 3-4th grade laptops in the near future but District will pay for those.

·  4th grade teachers would like interactive Map from National Geographic that they demoed so they’re applying for an “Innovation Grant”

·  Also new this year: Alternative seating for Kindergarten and each K teacher was able to buy a new “Developmentally appropriate” tool/item for their classroom.

·  5th graders this year will have a Snow Science Day at RMBL so 2 big class trips for them this year (Night at the Museum in Denver is the other) so they may have to do some fundraising.

Secondary ~ Suzanne for Annaliese Houseman

·  Also have technology needs; they will most likely use PTAs money that is earmarked for secondary this year for new laptops.

·  New Spanish has curriculum this year.

·  New “Artist in Residence” program: AP Art students being paired with local professional artists to work together

·  The house that was designed by CBCS students and being built by students over the summer is still being finished. Students, staff and local volunteers want to do the same thing again (build more houses) so they are starting a new non-profit to accomplish this. This project done jointly with the Applied Architecture and Fundamentals of Construction classes was a huge success, and they thank PTA for helping pay for the necessary tools.

·  District working on a Master Plan to prepare for the growth we are seeing

Treasurer Report ~ Kara Miller

·  Financial Audit completed;

·  Reminder that school really decides what we fund at the school

·  Budget and Profit and Loss were distributed (attached)

·  PTA spent $87,000 last school year on school and student activities

·  This year PTA didn't loose money on school supplies

·  Everyone should have cheddar up link to membership and business membership – please join/renew if you haven’t yet

Membership ~ Suzanne spoke for Menon Billingsley – memberships rolling in

·  PTAlargest child advocacy organization in the country. The more members we have, the larger voice/more power we have as advocates.

·  Inform parents that becoming a member does not mean you attend meetings.

School Supplies ~ Jen Willett

·  Went well! There are only a couple people that have open accounts.

·  Thank you to various helpers

·  PTA was able to give $350 in supplies to STEM teacher

Directory ~ Mary Haskell and Lauren Lange

·  We have gone digital, Everything this year will be electronic. If you want to be a business sponsor or recommendations please contact Mary:

·  Goal: $11,000 in Business Sponsors

·  $100, $200 and $400 Levels

·  Mary has received 20 confirmations from businesses so far, called 80

·  Inviting all families to join school directory by creating an account or update kids teachers & info: join.myschool.anywhere.com

·  Access is presently available to those with accounts on smart phones and computers. Download the MYSCHOOLANYWHERE app wherever you purchase apps and create an account and password for yourself.

·  Discussed adding a required “Mailing Address” to family’s entries

Staff appreciation ~ Bettina Hill

·  Provide luncheons for staff. Dinners during teacher conferences: PTA buys entrees from local restaurants & parents supplement with salads, drinks, dessert.

·  Different Grade Parents asked different months to provide food for luncheons but all are always welcome to bring food for other grades

·  First luncheon: Oct. 26thKindergarten 11th grade, Theme: Mexican

·  Using reusable supplies – trying to reach zero waste.

·  This year, not as many luncheons

·  Each donation should be enough for 8-12 people

Legislative ~ Suzanne for Sumaya Abuhaidar

·  Sumaya working to make it easier for people to participate in School Board Meetings.

·  Mary Haskell is ourPTArepresentative for School Accountability Committee (SAAC) – she’ll represent us at Accountability meetings, vote, and report back to us at PTA meetings.

Original Works ~ Jodi Zatorski

·  Fundraiser for the School thruPTA. Order items/gifts made from child’s artwork; will have them back/delivered for the holidays

Social Media ~ Michelle Gerber

·  Chris Bales and Michelle are working towards connecting Facebook and Twitter to our website so Michelle can blog on the website and stream it to both FB and Tw. This is in the works and hopefully will be up and running by the end of the month.

Gala ~ Chris Osmundson

·  Saturday November 4th, Public House

·  Ticketed event, apps will be provided

·  Working on entertainment : DJ, hire 2 MCs ?

·  Theme: 20 year reunion of CBCS. School opened Fall of 1997

·  This year, away from small ticket silent auction items, focus on larger ones. Please help us procure larger auction items.

·  Silent auction/paddle raising for teacher goals & just to donate money

·  Using Greater Giving Online software - live action! People can bid on line - Open it up a week early and keep it open a week after.

·  Asking teachers and kids to make a video. Looking for a videographer.

·  Respectful of everyone's time, don't need a lot of people to help. Maybe 6 more people.

·  Idea: Every parent could receive a blank donation form, need to clear with Principals.

·  Paperless post for invitation to the Gala

·  Idea: High school kids could watch younger kids for a fundraiser.

Reflections ~ Stacey Pennie

·  Art Contest run thru National PTA – local, State & National levels

·  Categories for many types of Art: Dance, visual arts, etc…

·  This years theme: Within Reach

Programs ~ Roxana Alvarez

·  Working with Enrichment Coordinator to bring some programs together

·  Traveling shows: Images of the World for Elementary in Oct and Digital Planetarium Experience in January 2018 for all grades. $500/day.

·  Considering bringing a professional speaker who is a sex educator for high school and parents in November.

CHOICE PASS – Lauren Lange

·  This program, which encourages youth to make healthy choices and avoid drugs and alcohol, continues to grow: last year we had 650 participants. Gives parents tools to talk to their teens about substance issues and healthy lifestyles and offers incentives including $100 ski pass. This year H.S. students will be drug tested at doctor’s office.

·  Danielle Vaughn has become CBCS's newest Choice Pass Committee member, joining Lauren Lange, Jennifer Oberling and Brian Brown.

·  Choice Pass Sign-Up Nights: in Gunnison on 9/25 9/27 and at CBCS on 10/3 10/4. Really need adult volunteersfor the CB nights - Lauren passed around a volunteer sheet.

COMMUNICATIONS – Lauren Lange

·  emails that go out from PTA go through her

·  she also fields emails from various PTA addresses and makes sure the appropriate person receivesthe questions/concern.

Health, Safety and Welfare -

·  Kate Haverkampf owns a farm. She has been donating greens to the Gunnison High school and would like to increase donations to CBCS.

Free Money ~ Emily Pannier

·  Deadline to turn inBox tops: November 1st

·  Last year we raised over $1,400 from various “Free Money” sources (Amazon Smiles, City Market Cares and Box Tops)

Cookbooks ~ stillhave PTAcookbooks to sell!

Oh - Be - Gearful

·  John Garmhausen and Chris Bales co-chaired last year. They may do it again this year but should be on lookout for other/future co-chairs

New Business:

Holly Harmon commented that she liked the Social event last year at the Brick to introduce new families to thePTA. She, Lori Mason, and Sunni Hamilton volunteered to organize and plan a PTA social event for all families.
