Course Content: Percentages are based upon math department guidelines.
1. Test: Every chapter will have a test or project which will give each student an opportunity to display the student’s knowledge of the class concepts. Because these assignments address multiple skills, they are a significantly larger percentage of the grade.
2. Quizzes: This form of assessment is an opportunity to students to evaluate their own learning and seek additional help on content not mastered. I highly encourage students to make corrections to each and every quiz in preparation for unit assessments.
3. Composition Notebooks: Students are required to keep the class lesson notes in a composition notebook. They should include date, section number, title and class examples. Quizzes will be given over notes. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get notes from a peer.
4. Classwork: Any work that is started in class any may have to be finished as homework or independent practice. An attempt on assignment includes the assignment with all problems written and ALL work shown to attempt the first several problems. This includes text work, worksheets, quiz /corrections, etc.
5. Academic Integrity: Any intentional plagiarism, misrepresentation of one’s work, or academic dishonesty will result in receiving a grade of zero for assignment in question. It is also in direct violation of school policy.
Students will have the opportunity at the end of each quarter to retake ONE assessment to demonstrate increased understanding and improve his or her grade.
ELL: Accommodations will take place within the classroom and will include appropriate modifications, strategies, and resources.
Attendance: While there are often valid excuses for missing class, there is no substitute for being in class and learning the material as it is presented. I expect students to be in class, on time, daily. If you are absent you will need to get assignments off the class website. You are responsible for getting missed notes. Often a peer is the best source. I will not take time from other students during class to catch up absente work. Tardiness impedes the learning of the class and is disruptive. The bell is your warning that you are late. On your third tardy, per school guidelines, I will write a referral to the dean for discipline. If someone with the authority has kept you, you need to get a pass before arriving late to me. Without a pass, you are late.
Discipline: All other class procedures and expectations will conform to published school and district policies. This includes zero tolerance for bullying in any form.
The following rubric will be used for most class assignments as well as open ended quiz and questions:
4 - Demonstrates correct application of concepts and/or understanding of relationship to other relative material.
3 - Demonstrates thorough understanding, shows significant steps in reasoning, and correctly answers questions with few errors or omissions.
2 - Demonstrates general understanding with no major errors. Mostly correct showing significant steps in thought.
1 - Demonstrates some understanding or partial success. Shows some thought or reasoning. May contain major flaws or errors.
0 - Does not demonstrate thought or reasoning.
