CREBERT / GREBERT FAMILY REUNION 2014

UPDATE No. 23 June 2014

Hello, thank you for your interest in the Reunion (previously called “Get together”) which is planned for the weekend of 13th & 14th September 2014. Last Friday several members of the committee met - Ron & Jan Crebert, Kay (nee Crebert) Lloyd, Robyn (nee Pearson) & Bill Arkinstall, and our Grebert connection … Ewart Brockington - and we have been able to come up with a more detailed plan of what the weekend will involve.

SATURDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER:

The day’s events will be held at MayfieldEastPublic School, Crebert St., Mayfield. The school is on the hill adjacent to and overlooking the land where Peter & Maria Crebert had their vineyards and raised their family. Peter was also involved in establishing the school, so there is a lot of significance in the choice of this venue...

10.00am - Arrival & Registration.

There will be a $5pp fee - children free - to cover costs incurred in arranging the day. This needs to be prepaid wherever possible.

10.30am - Welcoming ceremony.

11.00am - onwards

We plan to have selected guests deliver stories relating to their branch of the family tree.

If you … or someone close to you...is able to entertain us with a yarn for about 10 minutes, please let us know so we can slot you in. This is an important part of the day, as many family members know little about their past, and the Crebert /Grebert connection.

**Displays of photos, articles etc around the hall.

If you are able to put together a display for your branch of the family, please let us know. Again, this is important to ensure there are points of interest for everyone. Gilbert Langfield, a Peter Crebert descendant,is working hard to put the FULL family tree together, ie Creberts & Greberts...a huge job! What we need from you is a few individual trees... starting from as far back as you can...down to you...your kids ...your grandkids. This should fit on 1 piece of sturdy cardboard. Remember that throughout the family there are several keen family historians, trying to piece together information - it will be a good opportunity to fill in some gaps.

** Projected displays of photos & documents will run during the day.

Please post or email any interesting information, photos, copies of documents you might have to us. Please don’t assume that we already have these...the more the merrier. Try to add identification to photos, but this is also a chance for unidentified faces to finally be named. This has already happened with a wonderful WW1 photo that has been identified... and family found.

** Fun activities for kids...there might even be some prizes!!

**LOTS OF TIME & OPPORTUNITY TO MEET RELS YOU NEVER KNEW EXISTED

**Tea, coffee, cold drinks, snacks & light lunch items will be available for purchase.

SATURDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER –EVENING EVENT

A dinner is planned at the Mayfield Ex-Services Cub (Mayfield Diggers), 58 Hanbury St., Mayfield.

This will be a buffet dinner, with surprise gifts for all!

In order to give the Club a firm indication of numbers, we request prepayment as detailed on the Registration Form. PLEASE COMPLETE AND RETURN THE REGISTRATION FORM, AND PAY BY DIRECT DEBIT OR CHEQUE, BY MONDAY 7 JULY 2014. THIS MAY SEEM EARLY, BUT TO CONFIRM THE VENUE BOOKING IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE COMMITTEE HAS A GOOD ESTIMATE OF ATTENDING NUMBERS BEFORE THE NEXT MEETING IN JULY.

WE UNDERSTAND THAT SEVERAL GUESTS HAVE HEALTH CONCERNS. IF YOU FIND YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND WE WILL BE ABLE TO REFUND YOUR $4O … PROVIDING WE HAVE A FEW DAYS NOTICE.

Sunday 14th September – DAY EVENT

After lengthy discussion, the committee have decided not to pre-plan activities for Sunday. Most guests who have travelled from afar will be either travelling home or catching up with family.

However, if there is sufficient interest we can organize a Mayfield Historical Walking Tour. Please indicate your interest on the REGISTRATION FORM. (cost - minimal, donation to Newcastle Historic Trust)

Crebert family who are interested in “grave hunting” will find several plots at SandgateCemetery ...

We will provide information re local church services in our next update newsletter.
