Review ABC Book

Objective: Your assignment is to construct an ABC book of terms/concepts that we have covered this semester.

Guidelines: Each page must contain two letters.

Page size must be standard (8 1/2 x 11)

Each page must be divided into 2 sections – 1 section for each letter

** You can only use 5 element words or symbols for the entire book.

Each page must include:

Ø  2 letters of the alphabet (artfully decorated)

Ø  A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 chemistry words per letter

Ø  Definition of the word (must be written clearly & accurately)

An illustration of that word (in color)

Or

An explained example of the word

Ø  The final product must include at least 10 words from each of the four sections.

It will be graded using the following criteria:

Your alphabet book is worth 130 points.

Each letter is worth 5 points:

Letter (artfully decorated) – ½ point

2 chemistry words (from this semester) – 1 point

Clear & accurate definition of words – 2 points

A color illustration or worked example of the words – 1 points

General neatness - ½ point

Due on: Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012

LATE PROJECTS WILL BE DOCKED 20 POINTS EACH DAY. ABSOLUTELY NO PROJECTS WILL BE

ACCEPTED AFTER THE WINTER BREAK! If you are

absent send your project with a parent or friend.

ABC Midterm Vocabulary

Remember, you must include two words for each letter on a page (so 4 words per page).

You must include at least 10 words from each of the four categories.

Highlighted words are for the chemistry students only.

Special Words/Pages:

·  “J” = “Just What I Need”; at least 2 formulas, examples, definitions that you think might be useful on your midterm that aren’t anyplace else in your book.

·  “W” = Tungsten; Draw the box from the periodic table for tungsten and label the different parts

·  “U” = Uranium; include element name, symbol, family name, number of protons, number of electrons (explain these last two), and show how to calculate the number of neutrons

·  “X, Y, and Z” = can all be counted as one letter [so you only need a total of two words for the three letters instead of six]
